Craigslist is awesome!

Decided to sell my 15ft car hauler trailer because it just sits and takes up space.
Took a pic of it and listed it on Craigslist. No more than 15 minutes later...I get a call from a guy an hour away....he wants to drive over and see it.

He looked it over and peeled off enough $100 bills to pay for it and left.
The whole transaction took less than two hours.

Congratulations on the sale . Clean used car trailers generally go pretty quick .

stevej37 06-19-2022 03:26 PM

Luckily, he showed up with a set of magnetic tail lights. We couldn't get one side of the trailer to stay working...it had corrosion behind the socket.

It was a 1996 build...but still solid.

I sold my 88 widebody cab on Cl last week. Posted the ad and within 30 minutes had an email. Unfortunately, he was working for the next 2 days and could not make it until the weekend. Told him I would show the car, but also gave him right of first refusal. Showed it to a couple people, nickel and dime types, but they offered full price. Told them they had to wait. Made appt with first guy and he showed up last Saturday and really looked over the car. Told hi I was offered full price, but held the car for him to look at. He said he'll take it and picked it up on Thursday.

Dang it! I'da gave you 2 crisp, clean, $100 bills for it Steve! And maybe a few home brews and some jerkey if I could get my new hunting blind to fit on it!

stevej37 06-19-2022 04:47 PM

I bought it 13 years ago off ebay for $1300. The seller was near Findlay, Ohio.
Sold it now for $1200

I only used it about 10 times...but my buddies used it about twice that much!
(it also had slide out ramps and an electric cable winch for loading)

I sold an enclosed trailer (word of mouth) for $2k more than I paid 12 years ago. Trailer prices are CRAZY right now.

If I didn't need my machine and dump trailers, I could sell them for as much or more than I paid for them new.

LWJ 06-19-2022 06:30 PM

Congratulations! Yes. Trailer prices are nuts!

Yes they are. I can’t believe what a new steel trailer goes for nowadays. Aluminum trailers always hold their value but they’re astronomical right now

manbridge 74 06-19-2022 06:48 PM

Trailers have always sold well here. Knew I guy who went back east to visit relatives every year. He bought and brought some sort of trailer back every year and near doubled his money after light reconditioning.

stevej37 06-19-2022 07:01 PM

I prob would have kept it, but I no longer have anything to pull it with.
The tires were all questionable and the wiring needed work.

If I ever buy another full-size truck...I'd go with a smaller aluminum trailer.

fastfredracing 06-20-2022 04:57 AM

I hear they go for big money when you have some camber dialed in .http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1655726252.jpg

Where were you a month ago when I needed one? Ended up renting a uhaul but wanted to buy and everything nearby was junk (homemade rusted out POS's people wanted $4K+ for).

stevej37 06-20-2022 06:58 PM

I noticed today that Tractor Supply had a whole line of trailers that they rent out. From small utility trailers to car haulers. One of the larger atv carriers had a sign for $24.95 a day rent.

Mine was just sitting and the tires were starting to rot.

john70t 06-20-2022 08:16 PM

^good move.
You might have left money on the table (considering how good you maintain) but won overall.

It might be worthy to demand a few shots of wheel bearing grease before any long hauls.

stevej37 06-21-2022 05:58 AM

^^^ Carlos, the new owner, looked it over real closely. He seemed to know what he was getting...and it wasn't anywhere near new condition.
Some of it could be cleaned...the steel platforms were green with algae and mildew. It was always parked in the shade of a pine tree.

I did a search of several Tractor Supply’s and didn’t find one that rented trailers. Maybe my GoogleFu was weak

Maybe it's up to the owner of the specific store...I dunno.

Sold a boat years back and the guy asked if the trailer lights worked.

I was like dafuq did you just ask? It's a trailer, of course half the lights don't work!

Not much more annoying than people who think all trailer lights should work all the time. Friggin Kyles.

On the subject of CL and now FB marketplace i am giving up on both. Inordinate amount of scammers populating both platforms to the point of it being much easier to either drag it to the dump or sell it by word of mouth at enough of a discount to incite a quick sale.

No! Stick with steel. Aluminum cracks over time and trailers lousy when empty. You want some weight in a trailer unless you're towing with some sort of car or minivan or ridgeline.

The opposite here for CL. After selling the trailer, yesterday I decided to list my 24 speed road bike. It just sits because I no longer can ride in that position due to my back.

https://images.craigslist.org/00R0R_...t2_600x450.jpg

I get up this morning and there is a message from a guy in Grand Rapids and he wants to see it. By noon, the bike is gone, full price asked in my hand. :)

stevej37 06-22-2022 02:39 PM

Baz would have been there by 9am and filled both hands with cash :D.

stevej37 06-22-2022 02:46 PM

^^^ He could have bought it when he picked up the car hauler trailer. :D

stevej37 06-22-2022 03:59 PM

Next up on CL....my Honda powered pressure washer. Haven't used it for about 3 years.
Time to sell it.

stevej37 06-22-2022 05:17 PM

Just now had two more inquiries about the bike on CL.
The money is there...great time to be selling.

fastfredracing 06-30-2022 04:16 PM

I need to purchase a big AC/DC aluminum Tig welder. I was feeling bad about all the money I have been spending on my tow truck project , so I decided to sell down some stuff . I listed my unfinished project 1989 Yamaha XT 350 last night , just before I went to bed .
Sold it for full asking price today at 3:15. I bought a 10 ft 4x6 1/4" aluminum beam,( big money new ) and am pciking up a nice tig set up tomorrow afternoon. All on marketplace .
I love it , but it is flakey at times. You just have to roll with it .
I think I answered 35 or more requests . I hate it , but I always answer them all . You never know

stevej37 06-30-2022 04:23 PM

I've found that my listings on CL can sit for a couple weeks....but when I get a response, I get 5 or 6 more right afterwards.
It's almost like one response opens the listing up...I dunno.

I still like CL for non shippable items. I've never had a bad sale...and they always bring the green stuff.
