Have we had a Rodney Dangerfield thread recently?

Hands down the funniest man who ever lived.

Johnny played this one great.

Thanks for posting that - I've had one of those days and needed the laugh.

I always found the ticks/twitches interesting - like he was nervous about his delivery. Maybe it was all part of the act.

No doubt one of the all time greats .

The last few minutes are priceless in this one:

Back to School...

Thornton Melon: What’s your favorite subject?

Bubbles: Poetry.

Melon: Really? Well, maybe you can help me straighten out my Longfellow.

I was thinking when I saw the thread title, "I should find and watch 'Back to School.'"

I haven't seen that in a looooong time.

Every time I'm at dinner with my folks and I pick up the check, I say, "Folks, it's on me. Shakespeare for everyone."

mattdavis11 06-22-2022 05:42 AM

We can't leave out the greatest movie ever made.

One of the giants.
And yes, Caddy Schack was for many years my favorite film.

URY914 06-29-2022 04:33 AM

Years ago VH-1 (I think) did a "behind the scenes" story on Caddy Shack. It was a crazy group of people in Ft. Lauderdale for the filming.

I saw that and it was excellent. Rodney and Ted were the exact same persons in real life. Rodney was up all night, partying hard with cast and crew, while Ted was telling everyone to practice their lines and get to bed on time. Chevy and Bill were not on speaking terms and had all their scenes scheduled on different shoot days. But the one day they happened to both be on set, Harold Ramus got them to do a scene.

Great book on this too. As you can imagine there was a LOT of coke involved.

I’ve seen Caddy Shack about 8000 times and every time I see it, I see something I missed before. Last time: after the caddy tournament they had a card table set up with the prizes. First place was a little 6 inch plastic trophy, second a pair of tube socks and third a little bag of about 6 tees.

Dangerfield’s best line: when he’s buying everything in the pro shop, he sees a hat and says “that’s the stupidest looking hat I’ve ever seen”…turns around, sees Judge Smails is wearing the same hat and says, “but it looks good on you”!

This is why Carson was a genius:

Supposedly it was so crazy that Sarah Holcomb who played Maggie (she also played the Mayor's daughter in Animal House) had a breakdown and hasn't worked in film since.
