Anyone ever receive a Moog bearing in generic packaging?

I bought a Moog hub assembly for my F250 on sleezebay. The listing showed a moog hub assembly in front of a Moog box. I received a hub assembly with the Moog name and product number on it in a plain yellow box with a "Made in China" sticker at the bottom. The plain yellow box caused a red flag so I started looking and Moog parts have an identifying number on them from what I can find. I see no identifying number and from what I've found, Moog started a campaign back in 2018 "If it's not in a Moog box, It's not Moog"

https://www.moogparts.com/moognews/accept-nothing-less-than-genuine-moog-parts.html

I think an ebay seller sold me a counterfeit part.

Certainly sounds like they did. I would let Moog know, they may have some interest in that.

Ebay.... notorious for knock offs. Just like Amazon. Plus you don't get a warranty. Scratch your toes and go to rock auto.

Timken and add some additional grease down the sensor hole.

Called Moog and sent the information to them. Almost 100% sure it's counterfeit. Contacting ebay.

Not to sidetrack but if you read Moog's warranty, it's void if not installed by a certified mechanic. Most brands have the same disclaimer in their warranty.

I ordered a Timken from R.A. only a one year warranty but as I said, many restrict warranty to tech installed. I could have Bob fake me an invoice!!

Its crazy the degree that autoparts get counterfeited even the boxes and stickers sometimes. I don't trust any ebay or amazon seller's without some sort of secondary supporting evidence.

I haven't had an issue with warranty with rock auto. And I'm talking 6 months in sorta deal.

I've read that timken for the fords are oem. Not sure if true or not.

I don’t think I’ve ever bought an auto part on eBay. I bought a few brand name items on Amazon, but most of my parts are from well-known websites.

I've bought some stuff on Ebay and never really had any instances where a red flag popped up when I bought the item. In this case, I've bought a few Moog hub assemblies for different vehicles I've owned and knew they were in a Moog branded box.

I just bought and installed FAG brand wheel hubs for the E46. Everything looked legit, but I still have my worries.

So wait...someone tried to screw you with a fake hub and now you’re going to cheat the legit manufacturer?

Lovely.

I have had almost opposite experiences. Bought some parts on eBay that seemed sketchy as hell. I didn’t care, just needed a cheap part and rolled the dice. Got the brand name. Most recent was an aftermarket reed valve for a two stroke Dirtbike.

With that said, I am married to the worlds biggest skeptic. So I am either very diligent or enter transactions with low expectations. Or both.

There's nothing wrong with cheap parts but I do have a problem with sellers trying to sell a knock off as legit.

Shopping online is super convenient but it can also be a pita... I always try a local first.

I've never had Rock turn down a warranty claim. Last one was a Moog tie rod. Lasted just over 6 months. They sent me a new one and told me to trash the old. No questions asked. And it came in a Moog box. As well, Rock is usually as cheap if not cheaper than ebay for the same parts but you know when you buy a brand, you are getting that brand.

How am I cheating the legit manufacturer? The Timken was less than the Moog on RA and it would arrive faster. Both are a good brand. Moog voids the warranty if not installed by a certified mechanic so the longer Moog warranty becomes a non factor.

Or are you talking about me joking around about having Bob make a fake invoice. You know that's not something I'd actually do... don't you?

A company I SHOULD put the screws to is Detroit Axle. I'm replacing their wheel bearing less than two years and 10,000 miles after it was installed. Lifetime warranty right there for all to see. Any disclaimer about customer installed rather than tech installed in their warranty info? Nope. And the best part is, they offered to send me a new replacement part if I'd change my online review of the part. So.... I changed my review to let folks know they offered to send me a replacement part if I'd change my review. I called and told them I changed my review but for some reason they never sent me the replacement part.

I bought the Detroit Axle part after a friend told me about his "luck" with their parts.
