OK, so what's the deal here?

There's a weight loss clinic that's been advertising for a while in one of the area's largest newspapers and is promising near-miraculous results with seemingly little effort on the patient's part. Their pitch says: "No hunger, no cravings, no exercise, no drugs, no injections, no diet pills, no liposuction, no surgery, no packaged foods, and no calorie counting". Some patients report losing as much as 70lb. in just 4 months. Others claim to have lost over 20lbs after only one month in the program. Healthy dieting usually results in a weight loss of around 2-3lbs a week...how is this clinic able to get people to drop so much weight so quickly?

I did a quick search on the place but all I came up with were rave reviews from current and former patients. Nobody's saying exactly how this program works. I can certainly see how your wallet might slim down a bit though...the first 6-week session will set you back $2400, and each session thereafter is another $600.

Anyone have any experience with programs making outrageous claims like this?

No idea...but I sure wouldn't trust in the reviews. So easy to post fake reviews.

The price is higher than I've ever seen. Two months for $3K!!

Believe there is a new FDA approved weight loss pill, not over the counter, prescription only. But it's supposed to be for people that are obese, not like 20-40lbs overweight. Also very expensive

It looks like he's trying to get one of the last few 12 packs of Founders Centennial IPA.
He is justified.

Well, if their only form of accepted payment is copper, I could see that much weight coming out of your pocket.

I always love when they don’t want you to exercise- of course, because your muscles weigh more than fat and if you lose muscle, it looks good on the scale!

I noticed this when I would stop commuting to work in the winter and would put on a lot of flab over the winter and it would literally take me a month to drop one pound of weight- this is with 40 miles of riding a day; my belly was getting flatter and I felt better, but I was putting on muscle at the same time I was losing fat, so the scale didn’t budge.

I remember years ago, some commercial, "when is a weightloss pill with 357 dollars a bottle..." or some other relatively high price.

I've got to think that it's like ED pills and baldness pills, if you think there's a quick easy way to get what you're desperate to get, you'll pay a bundle for it. If there was a pill that would give women bigger T&A, it would sell like hotcakes (NPI). Thank goodness there isn't.

Well, I'm doing keto now and am not experiencing the stuff they promise none of in the OP. I guess I get cravings when I'm surrounded by stuff I'd love to eat, but can't. But I don't ever get the urge to go out and buy stuff I want to eat. I had a gig in Tucson last night and I have some favorite Mexican places to eat there. We went and I had to watch Mrs. Lee eat some stuff I so love and I couldn't order a margarita. But I had a pretty good meal and walked out of there feeling good and not bloated.

Bet he's going for the diet coke. That crap... meh.

Anyway, portion control is the answer.

People do not need to consume SO MUCH food.

Yes, ice cream is delicious. But no one needs to eat half the pint in a sitting. After the first few bites what are we doing, reminding ourselves that it's delicious? Are we celebrating our bountiful ice cream stocks? You just had a bite. You know it's delicious. Put it back and keep the freezer shelf stocked.

Another way to look at it is that we burn fuel just like a car. If you are not doing much to up your breathing you are just idling your metabolism. And if idling while filling the tank, so to speak... do the math. We typically exhale ~2 lbs/day of water vapor & CO2. Eat less than that and you will lose weight.

This and it's OK to leave food on your plate. Growing up I had to eat everything on my plate... Now the left overs go to my chickens.

Probably some variant of fasting. Something like restricting your eating to two or even just one meal a day, whereby you will keep your insulin levels low which will help tap into your use of stored fat and secondly, at that single meal, you will not have to count calories as you can devour your whole daily energy intake at one go. Pretty neat if you can stand the cravings, which for many people will be a real pain during the first days/weeks.
Whether this is healthy in the long run is debatable. The long term studies are few and of questionable quality.

Intake verses burn rate....

It's pretty simple maf ....

My weight had crept up on me... shocked when I weighed the most ever.

I dropped 20 lbs in 21 days about a month ago.... from 213 to 193... been holding at 190 since... I took a hiatus ... need to drop another 10... eventually

All these diets are ridiculous.

Portion control.

Activity.

Those two things are all you need.

Everything else is just short term and punishing yourself.

Ephedra could do all of that plus you felt like Batman.

But there was risk you would die.

Once again, Big Brother stepped in and ruined it for everyone.

Hey, hey, hey there, big fella! You'd better watch what your saying! But you're right. No one needs half the pint. Duh, it's the whole pint in one sitting!

I was with you all of the way to the last 2 sentences. I'm not sure that's how it works.

Yep. And it's more about intake than anything else. Yes, exercise helps, but I saw a quote by a Dr once that was something like "no one has ever outrun calories." The deal is that it takes an enormous amount of "exercise" to burn a lot of calories, and most of us can consume far more calories than we have time and fitness to exercise away.

I'd like to lose about 15#, but I'm not in a bad spot right now.
