A week with the Jag

This thing is a hoot.

It’s a stupid fast road car.

Makes all the right noises which they balanced perfectly.

You can hear it coming a couple blocks away even when driving like a normal person but it’s still quiet inside.

Some odd stuff like the turn signals, no click clack when engaged, not sure i dig that.

And no temp gauge, as in there is none which is a really odd choice for a car whose known quirks are water pump and coolant cross over pipe failures that lead to grenaded motors. Will be adding an aftermarket OBD gauge set to deal with that.

But i am enjoying it. The balance of a daily driver and on demand hooligan mobile is perfect.

Goodness that thing is gorgeous.

Makes me want to change teams.

Baz 06-25-2022 02:09 PM

Awesome! Congrats, Scott!

Scott Douglas 06-25-2022 02:42 PM

So this is the car they had a concern with before delivering it to you?
What was that all about?
Good looking car.

No it’s not. I updated that thread.

This one came in the market same day that Carvana started the shenanigans.

I canceled the Carvana deal because this one ticked all the boxes, a year newer so had the front end treatment i preferred and 4k less miles on it.

And the interior sold me.

I’ve not seen the two tone in another one.

Damn sexy. I am sure I need one.

I missed that update of the other thread. Sorry.
I was wondering what interior that new car had. That ROCKS for sure.
Is the headliner light colored too?
I'm a white over tan type as black interiors are like being in a cave to me.
That's a sweet ride with that interior.

Gogar 06-26-2022 07:40 AM

Great looking car! I think the two tone interior is very nice.

It's like having a mustang or corvette without all of the stigma attached. Like James Bond kicking someone's butt while wearing a tux.

When we bought my wife a vehicle about 1.5 years ago, we were mostly looking at medium SUVs. One of the vehicles that we looked at was an AMG GLC 43. I'd have loved that, but I think we are better off (since it's her car) with the 3.6 flat 6 outback.

Headliner is light colored, kind of a Taupe micro suede. Has a nice feel to it.

I was having a hard time saying no to this one.

My wife loves her 2014 XKR for its beauty and 510 supercharged hp (quarter mile in 12.7 seconds) when she’s trying to get on the freeway. I don’t drive it much since I acquired a 2020 F Type SVR. It makes 575 hp, runs the quarter in 11.2 seconds and makes terrific noises! I’ve been impressed with their dependability. All we have done is have them serviced annually. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1656302419.jpg

I looked at F Types, too short for it, could not find a comfortable seating position and still see out of the thing. Also the interior was too claustrophobic for my taste.

golfnutjtl 06-26-2022 08:43 PM

They are factory wheels - 20 inch Takoba.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1656304938.jpg

I was shocked to learn that the XK (the X150 is the version I checked out) has a reputation for ... wait for it ... reliability. I didn't think Jaguar and reliability were ever used in the same sentence :D But after doing much research on the Jag forums, it's true. My '07 has been rock solid. V8, RWD, staggered wheels, aluminum chassis and body - what's not to like? Just a really great GT.

Something I noticed this weekend.

Took the wife out to dinner and the back road is a somewhat enjoyable ride.

I'd already thought the shift points were pretty spot on perfect.

While slowing down even for a full stop these things downshift into engine braking even in standard full auto granny mode.

Don't think I've ever driven an auto that did that.

Tervuren 06-28-2022 05:16 AM

I have both a Corvette and the Jag.
They are very different cars.
The current gen Mustang on the other hand is much closer to the Jag.

The gearbox is "adaptive", and the behavior will change over time after a reset.
In my case I don't like what it adapts for me as it ends up very tame.
I'd rather a punchy auto mode and I can keep it gentle in the paddle mode.

Now...that is one beautiful car. Inside and out. Love the upholstery work. But I just can’t make myself like these “flat” paint jobs. Perhaps it’s a vinyl wrap (door jambs are gloss black). Either way, it significantly detracts from an otherwise stunning profile.

Tervuren 06-28-2022 07:54 AM

My thoughts look at it was also wrap.

Beautiful cars.

Tervuren 07-02-2022 12:22 PM

Is this a bit like you had in mind?
They stopped making this color on 2012+ XKR's, XK only from then on.

I know you are in TX, but what do you think about the size? It looks rather large.

Tervuren 07-02-2022 03:01 PM

Compared to my 944 it was a huge step.
It is even bigger than it looks.
That said, its easy to drive which somewhat makes up for the size.

It's not a small car.

Very similar to my old VR4.

Scott R 07-02-2022 08:41 PM

I drive my XJS all of the time, completely reliable. Well.. After a lot of work. The Teves II braking system can...

Edited: This that really necessary?
