Prelude offer...

Haven't driven it for over a month...put about a 100 miles on it this morning. One of the stops was at the Honda dealer...needed to ask some questions about the SI.

The general manager spotted it and asked if he could look it over. Ended up offering me $10K for it....A very fair price.
He wants to display it in their showroom...they already have a couple old mint Honda dirt bikes in there.

I'm going to think on it for a couple days. I hate to part with it.
Any advice?

I've been looking for Preludes the generation prior to yours. Your gen is still pretty common and prices around here are $4K to $8K so $10K sounds like it might be a good sale for you. But you will regret selling it as soon as it's gone. But then there's $10K in your pocket.

if you are serious about selling it,
check with carvana before letting a dealer get it
carvana will likely offer 2 or 3 grand more than a dealer
would for that car

If you're not using it, I'd cut it loose and save on insurance, etc.

I don't know about older stuff that's in mint condition, but it would be worth a try. Also get a bid from Shift, Vroom, Driveway, and Carmax.

I was offered "up to $8k over KBB" for my 2019 4Runner by a local dealer last week. KBB trade-in value is $43k, so probably close to $50k for it. I paid $37k for it brand new. Crazy times.

The money part is not important...but garage space and not finding time to use it is.
I'm afraid I will say...."ok I got the money and it's sitting in the bank...but the car is gone forever."

You'd be well on your way towards a nice Bullitt Mustang.

Insurance is nothing...I only insure for the minimum to purchase a plate.
Next year the car is eligible for a MI historical plate. $30 for a 10 year plate.

I have had the two in my sig on historical plates for almost 10 years now.

It's already a 4 stall...5 with the lift. But if a car is parked behind the one you should drive....it just sits.

I didn't have much luck with Carvana when selling my Fit a few months back.
Their best offer was $100....and I ended up selling it for $2500 to a gal.

That thing needs some stance and a big shot of nitrous. Where is Playa???

Seriously, sell it.

It is gorgeous, however.

Thanks!
It does have nitrous. I installed a Zex Nitrous package about 15 years ago.
Remote bottle opener, bottle heater, and all hidden switches.
The nitrous is a 65 shot/hp kit.

He can use my old trailer he bought to haul it home to FL :)
Or drive it....I've got an extra nitrous tank that goes with it.

That car has almost certainly long since finished depreciating. It also, IMO, is a very special car in Hondas history. I'm all about selling stuff that isn't being used but be sure you don't just leave $10k sitting in a checking account losing value day after day thanks to inflation.

IOW i think that car will be worth more in a year, two or even three than $10k in an envelope will be.

Yeah...I was thinking about it's value going up. I just had the timing belt replaced and all the gaskets renewed. No leaks at all now. The car runs and drives as new.
On the other hand...I will be 70 next year. :)

I'd ask yourself which car would you rather take on a long road trip?
This or the SI?
I would bet this rides better than the SI as far as your back is concerned.

stevej37 06-29-2022 10:40 AM

^^^ That is true. The Preludes all had the double wishbone suspension...and it absorbs bumps like no other.
The SI has all the electronic gimmicks and will hug the road a lot better.

My back is still slowly improving...I'm hoping by fall that it won't be an issue anymore.
