Tire pressure question, dash notice, Mercedes
I have an '2012 ML 350. Every once in a while my my dash nanny bi=etch tells me one or more tire has low pressure.
WTF, fresh tires, no slow animal hits....wtf. Good for a couple of months and another sensor goes off.... Any ideas?

first thing to do would be to check your tire pressures.
the second thing would be to look into why the sensors are failing. |

How old are the sensors?
They do have a battery that powers them, most shops have a tool that can tell you the state of the sensor..

Maybe the batteries are approaching end of life. I understand 10 years is typical.

If the batteries are low...it should show a light for the system.
If a tire is shown...it's a low pressure alert...which could be from cool temps at night.

^^^ There ya go.
If a battery was low..the light wouldn't go out after re-filling the tire. Yes..10 years is about the average life of a tire sensor battery.

I recently had the "TPMS monitor fault" show up on the dash of my 09 Ford Taurusaurus on a cross country trip, about 5 or 6 hours into the trip when I had checked the tire pressures before my departure and they were fine. So I pull over at the closest rural fuel station and wait a few minutes then check the tires with my gauge. They are all fine. Funny thing on the Taurusaurus the dash warning message gives me an option of pressing the reset button on the steering wheel to dismiss the message. So that's what I did. Maybe it was pressure change due to change in elevation. Sometimes even a changing weather front will freak out the TPMS on many vehicles. All you can do is shake your head at all the folks in the past that had Firestone tires on Ford Explorers. Yep, that's why this is a non issue aggravation for someone who maintains their stuff!

Sounds like pretty much every other car/tire out there, they lose air over time, sometimes at different rates.
Get an air gauge and a compressor. Check them before they get that low and then put air in them. My '08 Boxster and my wife's '18 Outback will show you on the dash the amount of air in all 4 of the tires. This set of tires on the Boxster is weirdly stable, but that's not usually the case. This set of tires on my wife's car is pretty good, but the right rear tire loses air faster than the rest. Over 3-4 months, she may lose 1-2psi in 3 of the tires and the 4th may lose 4-5psi in that same time. I try to top it off before it gets that far along to keep them close, and will often add an extra 1-2 psi to give myself a little more time.

Always have the valve stems replaced at each tire change. I have the sensors replaced every other tire change, which is around 3 years on the Cayman. It would be every 1-2 on the Carrera, LOL!
