Victory By Design - Jaguar
I'm memory of Alain de Cadenet. This is one of my favorite episodes of VBD, hope y'all enjoy.

Wow, I hadn’t realized that he had passed. That’s very sad news, I really liked the guy. I had all of his Victory by Design series, it was good stuff.

Didn't know that either. Own a few of the DVD's. A real gift to the automotive world.

![]() Had no idea of his passing. He needed a place to park his Stelvio during the Alfa unveiling at a dinner in Carmel. Let him park in the hotel lot where I was staying. He let me take this photo and promised a ride in the Alfa 8C at the track which did not happen. Was a very nice guy to talk with. Rest in peace

Nor did I until I opened this thread. Very sad indeed. He was a wealth of knowledge...always a pleasure listening to his commentary on motor racing or classic cars. A class act all the way.
No cause of death published as of yet. Yes, the victory by Design series was superb, and was made even more special by Alain's passion for those fine cars. He'd always be around during the Monterey Classic Car Week and usually co-hosted the Concours-on-the-Avenue event in Carmel. Sharing the podium in Carmel with Donald Osborne back in 2013 ↓ ![]()

Just think about the cars that guy got to experience. Not just see or sit in but actually drive!

You can link to it, but embedding is not allowed. Watch the far right side of the screen at the top of the grass line for the Spitfire to approach.

He was a host at the "Legend of the Motorcycle" concourse that used to be held at the Ritz Carlton in Half Moon Bay. Kind of a Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance for motorcycles. I took pictures of it in 2007 and 2008:
https://gromitspapa.smugmug.com/Motorcycles/Legend-of-the-Motorcycle-2007/ https://gromitspapa.smugmug.com/Motorcycles/Legend-of-the-Motorcycle-2008/ I walked up to him and shook his hand- he was gracious. He later crashed his Vincent Black Shadow on Skyline, the scenic road nearby when he caught a pothole, but wasn't seriously injured. CA's roads suck a lot. ![]() ![]() Builder Jesse James emulating Rollie Free here.

My favorite episode of that show. XJ13, either this or the 904 Porsche is my favorite car of all time.
