Paddleboard Fishing
I got into paddle boarding last year, and decided to try fishing with it. So far, I've had success each trip. I live near the mouth of the Detroit River and there are a lot of currents flowing through my part of the lake.
![]() ![]() I figure it's one way to fish and get a workout. 😀 Last edited by Jay Auskin; 07-13-2022 at 05:38 AM.. |

My balance sucks thanks to inner ear problems as a kid. So do you stand on the board and fish? I tend to be an aggressive hook setter so I could see myself in the lake in short order.

I could see tangling with a big stingray or small shark and going for a nantucket sleigh ride....

Being right on top of the water I don't need a net. I just slide the fish right up on the board. |

Most of my fishing recently is fly fishing out of a belly boat.

That second one is a sheepshead isn't it?
My brother and I went for a ride in a jon boat on a lake up in Michigan once courtesy of a Northern pike. Got that sucker up to the boat and it spits out the pickerel that had actually hit the lure. Off it swam, while my brother and I yelled "noooooooooooooooooooooo"

That's a good sized fish for a paddleboard catch!
A few years ago with light spinning gear. I had some success with the fly rod a bit later. Edit: pic not showing. Last edited by Bill Douglas; 07-13-2022 at 01:07 PM.. |

You mean salt water fish don't you? Look up Lake Erie Sheepshead. I think they're a relative of the carp if I'm not mistaken. I think that's what the guides called them when we'd catch them while walleye fishing.

Sheepshead. Catch ‘em here around Lake Ontario. Very strong fighting fish. People talk bad about em but I’ll take one any day over most fresh water fish as far as a fight. Don’t think ide eat one though. Maybe I would feed one to Bigfoot
