My neighbor ran over his puppy this morning .

Super sad stuff guys. His Golden Lab died a few months ago. He is my age, and single, and we would both talk about how lonely we were .
He got Tucker 5 weeks ago . Cute little shepard mix , I loved that little pup and so did my 6 year old son.
My neighbor has been cutting up firewood all weekend . We kind of keep to ourselves , but also keep an eye out on each other .
I am out minding my own business in my yard this morning, when I hear him yell
"mfer , oh god no "
I yelled over " Paul , are you o.k " He yelled back ?" no "
He did not sound hurt, but I thought it best to walk over and make sure he didnt cut his hand off, or was laying under a tree branch or something .
He jumped into his truck to move a load of wood and felt something , he thought he had ran over a log, but when he looked in his rear view mirror , he saw the poor little guy ,
When I walked over, he had the pup rolled up in a towel in his arms , and he was covered in blood
It was an image of a very broken , distraught man , I honestly became overwhelmed with emotions myself and had to walk back over to my yard to put myself back together before I could go back and try to console him .
Terrible tragedy , I was always super paranoid about my kids, and my doggie and cat when moving vehicles around the yard .
My golden rule was never move anything unless I had the kids or dog in the car with me, or had them directly in my view .
I had a client have the same basic thing happen . Really sad and tragic
RIP Tucker ! He was named after the car .

My sister's husband ran over their family dog like that. Was really sad.

Oh man that’s rough.

I was always paranoid with the kids around and I was in the truck. I would always make sure they were the opposite direction of where I was going, and I could see them.

My good friends brother ran over his son with his boat on the trailer. I think he got away with a broken leg but that would be terrible.

I'm so careful here I ALWAYS do a walk around - just to make SURE there's nothing near or under I would harm.

Last week I thought I saw a lizard (Anole) run under my truck as I pulled out into the street. Hell, I spent a good 5 minutes making sure the little guy wasn't in harm's way!

I can't imagine ever harming any animal.......

Growing up we had this teeny-tiny little snow white poodle that always growled at me viciously but wouldn’t sleep with anybody else. She also demanded to lie in dad’s lap while we watched Star Trek, Wild Wild West, Johnny Carson, etc.

Well one evening the phone rang so dad woke up suddenly, threw off the comforter (with Winnie in it) and stepped right on her, killing her instantly.

That created the image of a family in trauma I shall never unsee…

Dad was beside himself.

I had previous neighbors many years ago and the Mom reversed her SUV in the driveway killing one of their young kids. I did not know them well but the community did all it could to provide support. The family unraveled and parents divorced a couple years later.

RIP Tucker. Admittedly I had tears in my eyes finishing the OP.

Just heartbreaking. Please spend some time with him to help him regain his footing. I think I’d be completely inconsolable. Guessing he is too.

Oh wow. That would be horrible in itself, but to have been the one that did it would be very, very tough to get over.
RIP, Tucker.
Hopefully your neighbor can recover.

Oh man. It may be a long time before he can forgive himself.

Man, that's hard.

When I was still practicing, we had a fellow attorney in town that backed over his young son who was on a trike and below the level of his trunk, couldn't see him in the mirror. Pretty much ruined the guy for life. There's a reason cars all have backup cameras now.

So sad. Hopefully he can forgive himself. Our older dog is one, larger and two, avoids the cars. The younger one not so much and I've had to really tell myself to make sure he's inside before I move cars around.

One of the things I do really appreciate about our newer vehicles are the cameras and the parking warning systems. They can be annoying, but they are good at spotting things.

We rescued a "thing" dog to wear out our australian velociraptor shepherd. She was abused and terrified, but over the years has become just a mildly timid dog but sweet. But there is terrier in there somewhere and that dog hunts. We had to segregate our house and the upstairs was the old cat's domain. We went away for a weekend, and the old deaf cat thought everyone was gone and new dog got him. Just instinct, but 3 years later and my wife still tears up. They grow into your heart. Sad to hear for this guy, very sad...

Oh God, that is horrible. Can't even imagine what he's going through.

I accidentally knocked a 2x4 over on one of my dogs. They way he yelped I felt so bad for days. I feel terrible when I accidentally step on their paw.

When my brother lived in the 'condo in redondo' two on a lot condo, he had the back condo. One day his neighbor up front came running over frantically asking if he knew CPR.
Turns out someone had run over a toddler when backing out of the driveway.
I'm not sure the child survived.
I try not to worry about my grandkids too much. I'll let their parents do that now. We are ever vigilant when moving cars when they are around though.
