Recycling old coinsso
So I’ve seen the ads onTV about old gold and silver, and I remembered that i had three Morgans silver dollars sitting in a sack. That I collected 60 years ago.So i ordered these silver surrounds for them to give to my wife, daughter and daughter in law as necklaces. Nice use of stuff that had been sitting around in a bag for sixty years.

I've done the same! A nice coin with a long chain makes a very nice piece of jewelry and often a conversation starter.
Did you check the markings / value before buffing them up? ![]() |

Yah,$40-$65 each so don’t much care. I know you aren’t supposed to clean them , but as jewelry don’t much care.

Cool - glad you checked! Yes, most of them are only tens of dollars over spot and great for jewelry. But you have to be careful, one mint mark difference and it could be worth thousands! Chances of course are low but you'd hate to do that and ruin the value.
I am fascinated by coins. They kept so well considering their age. Not many 100+ year old things are still that nice. Gold and silver from 2000 years ago still looks great too. (Definitely don't buff those!) |

I have some old coins too, been sitting around
forever and probably not worth much over face value. I see them every couple of years and say to myself: self, one of these days you should see if they are worth anything. But I never do because I think I know the answer: Maybe worth $30 on a good day. 1 bicentennial dollar 1 2007 James Madison dollar 1 1979 Susan B. Anthony dollar 9 Kennedy half dollars: 2 ea 1964 (90% silver) 1 ea 1971 1 ea 1972 1 ea bicentennial 1 ea 1979 1 ea 1980 1 ea 1981 1 ea 1985 ![]() |

Unless you have one that is extremely rare they are worth the current commodity price for the silver content.

Picked this up 20 years ago while on a film shoot in Key west from our boat captain who was the actual fisherman who dredged up silver from the El Cazador.
