The Russkies save the day!

Today, I started my fence painting project. Prob a 4 day effort to get it done.
It's on three sides of my 1.25 acre lawn.

Before I started....I stopped at a local store for refreshments for the project and spotted this beer...A Russian Imperial Stout Aged in Bourbon Barrels. $16 for a 4-pack.

It's 13.4% ABV and it pours like black ink. Wow...is it good!
The fence painting is now a 6 day project. :) (or more)

Sounds great but 2 of them would knock me silly.:D

stevej37 07-18-2022 12:19 PM

^^^ I only had one....and then the paint brush got real slippery!

I hate when that happens.:D:D

cabmandone 07-18-2022 12:34 PM

Yer not supposed to dip yer paint brush in it are ya? I probably would after one sip tho' :D

stevej37 07-18-2022 12:43 PM

Oddly enough...last winter, I bought a Zoom electric paint sprayer from Amazon for this job.

When it came time to do it...and the weather was perfect, I just grabbed the paint brush.
I enjoy jobs like this...esp in great weather like today.

I also saw a 4-pack of Bell's Kentucky Mule at the store...$26

The fence is white....hopefully, when I'm done.:)

The sprayer lets you get more drinking done!

stevej37 07-18-2022 12:53 PM

^^^Yeah...but I'm cheap...(german and dutch) I like the paint to hit the boards.
Every dollar saved is a dollar more for beer!

cabmandone 07-18-2022 12:55 PM

But time is money!

Drink four of 'em and you'll never notice.... or care!

stevej37 07-18-2022 01:10 PM

Here is the section that I did today...about 4 hours worth. I have about 5 more of these sections left to paint. Twelve foot sections...post to post.

Notice our drought...the grass is suffering.

We just got a few timely rains that really greened the yard up. Only problem? The weeds woke up too! Now I gotta spray.

stevej37 07-18-2022 02:43 PM

Crabgrass and Clover thrive in a drought here.

Too hard on the grass for me to spray now. Later with more rains and I'll do it.

Those Russians know/knew a thing or two. Some of my best friends are Russian imperial stouts.
What your describe sounds really nice.

stevej37 07-18-2022 03:11 PM

I wish Maxim was around to give his two rubles.

If you like that brew, be sure to check out Dragon's Milk bourbon barrel-aged stout from New Holland Brewing. 11% ABV and extremely smooth. There is also a "Reserve" version that adds a hint of vanilla by using real vanilla beans.

Despite the awful name, "TenFidy" comes in bourbon barrel aged, and not bourbon barrel aged. The "regular" is good, but the bourbon barrel aged is even better.
Regular

Bourbon Barrel Aged

And if you ever see or find any "Eclipse", get it!

The different color tops are aged in different kinds of barrels. Around here for the past couple of years, I've been able to get stuff from 2017.

stevej37 07-19-2022 12:26 PM

^^^ Plenty there to look for!
There is a huge beer store a half hour from me...they might have it.

Dragon's Milk is more common here...the brewery is an hour away. I'll try it.

masraum 07-19-2022 12:48 PM

BrewDog used to make a very tasty stout, Cocoa Psycho, but I don't think they make it any more.

https://products0.imgix.drizly.com/c...PR&fm=jpg&q=20

Now they make a "Pride" beer that is passionfruit flavored. They also make "Mallow Laser Quest" which is "pineapple and marshmallow". Seriously, they got rid of a great chocolate stout for that crap? Brewdog is dead to me!

stevej37 07-20-2022 11:41 AM

Stopped at mentioned store this am and asked about TenFidy.
The clerk said that they were 'out of stock' right now and the stuff 'flies off the shelves when in'. I'll try again later.

I ended up with this 4-pack from New Holland Brewing.
10% abv and very tasty.

It was on sale for $12 and the one pictured by dw1 was $3 more. I'll try that next time. I have to be careful with my beer allowance. :)

A few more packs and you should be able to water the lawn yourself. :D

stevej37 07-20-2022 11:54 AM

^^^ Why do you think the grass is so dead? :D
(I have no neighbors on that side of the lawn to see me.)

We did get another half inch of rain last night. It'll start greening up again now.

cabmandone 07-20-2022 12:03 PM

Dragon's milk is another "boozy" beer. I've had it a few times. Not bad. 10%... might as well be a light beer!

stevej37 07-20-2022 12:13 PM

^^^ I've eaten lunch at their brewery in Holland several times.
It's a nice place and the food is good. Holland is a nice city....esp the lakefront/beaches.

I picked up some last weekend as well as some Founder's KBS. Good, but not great. It's a little light, although I'm sure that the Reserve is probably much better. The KBS is much better.

stevej37 07-28-2022 06:09 AM

KBS is an excellent beer. Next time try a four pack of Founders Backwoods Bastard.
I think its much better than KBS
