Chicharonnes (pork rinds) taste great but gives me a tummy ache

I try to avoid carbs whenever I can but it’s hard especially on vacation. Today I’m seriously craving something salty and crunchy but don’t want to eat potato chips, so I thought I’d try Mexican pork rinds. Holy crap they’re great but an hour later, I’m rushing to a restroom. No explosion just gas. This is merely a Public Service Announcement in case you’re wondering about chicharonnes. You are welcome.

A shame you can't add that methane to gasoline...

Traditionally when you make a batch of Chicharron's, you next use the flavored oil to cook your Chimichunga's .

I grew up in San Diego, Chicharrons are fairly common here. But, the best Chicharrons I've ever had, small pizza joint in Heber, UT. Totally caught me off guard

I remember when I was a kid, my dad ate pork rinds. I've never liked pork rinds and have never tried chicharrones.

Interesting that they gave you gas. Glad you're there, instead of here.

Thanks. Now I'm off to the sketchy-looking liquor store in the valley (not actually sketchy) as they have the ones that come with a little packet of hot sauce.

I think the GI tract acclimates. Had food poisoning three times in the first 18mo after moving to NM. The next 24y? Solid as a rock. Now I'll eat anything with no drama.

Our 9yo is addicted to what we call "chickarones" - you pull the skins of of some chx thighs after a short roast then fry them crisp in ghee or chicken fat. Heck, I'd also rather eat those than the chicken itself

(edit - yes! those above with the little hot sauce pack are awesome!)

I prefer Cuban Chicharrons.

Not as greasy, meatier.

Best ones are fresh from the pot, if you've tasted those, you'd never buy bagged again.

In Japan, you can find small restaurants that just serve grilled chicken skin.

In Indonesia, KFC restaurants will sell you fried chicken skin.

I find chicken skin way tastier than pork skin.

Yep, I’m with you there.

What’s cool about Japan is you can find tiny little restaurants, some of them only seating three or four people at a time, and the guy behind the grill focuses on just one single thing. Any yakitori restaurant can get you chicken skin but it’s these little specialty places that are the coolest.

You can wander down a small Tokyo, going from one to the next, drinking a beer at each one, until you’re blotto.
