1993 Mustang GT

There is an automatic mustang convertible for sale with low mileage (under 30k) for sale near me. What should I be checking out?
Am I wrong, hoping easier to work on and cheaper parts than my 996 C4S (sold).
Thanks
I want an auto so my wife will drive hopefully getting her more interested. I’m okay not shifting. I’m a cruiser type.
Thanks.

You're asking in the wrong place imo.

I'd check out the options/prices for rear tires/rims, because there won't be much left of them in short order.

302, 205hp, light rear end. Smokey burn outs lie ahead!

As always, take it to a trusted local independent mechanic for a PPI (pre-purchase inspection). Expect to pay $75-100 for a comprehensive look over. If you know the guy is honest, it will be a good investment.

Under 30K for miles? Probably not many issues unless a snow belt car driven in snow...The aftermarket is huge for Mustangs...mine is an '09, so not familiar with '93. Educated guess says compared to a 996? Bullet proof..and no Porsche tax on parts or service.

Think those speedometers only went to 99,999. Unless there is a lot of documentation I'd consider it TMU. I had an 86 Gt and a 89 LX 5.0. If it still has stock disks and drums I would consider a brake upgrade to 4 wheel disks. My 89 was an automatic and was a dog compared to the 86 5 speed.

Good luck.

I have an 87 GT with the automatic tranny.
LOVE IT!!
Not real fast but fast enough for the family to cruise around the lake and get ice cream
Not sure of anything specific to look for on these cars, but overall look for accident damage and rust.
IMO these cars are real close to the bottom of their depreciation curve and are ready to explode.
I've been looking for a few more to add to the stable.
Have fun!

Buddy of mine bought a car like that when it was about 2 years old. That, and a condo to live in when he got his lawyer gig.

Nice leather seats, made the right noises, was fast enough and had a good A/C(Houston at the time)

What did the wife say?

Wife wasn’t so hip on color (emerald green) but otherwise okay. It will cost 1/2 what I sell the C4S for and hopefully cost much less to run, auto so she can drive and convertible which she likes. I think it’s fair for both of us.

I think a later mustang would be easier to own and not any more expensive, though I do like the fox body looks.

My dad bough a very low miles vert 2007 mustang gt for around 10k before he passed. Not exactly a pillar of handling or performance but a fun cheap car to run around in.

Me personally Id buy a cheap NC miata unless you need back seats. Cheap to own and run super reliable fun cars.

Or like some of us, never left. I was out of Porsche ownership from 2004 - 2014. In between, I had 2 miatas which were great, fun, little cars on a completely different budget level from a Porsche. I never left Pelican. When I sold my first Porsche, I eventually migrated from the 911 tech board to OT.

Actually, I think the Fox bodies have reached the low, are now going up in cost for the nice ones.

What color is the top and the interior? If it is a white top and a white leather interior it’s a “7up” Mustang, I want to say they made around 4,000 of them. They were the color you mentioned and had the GT wheels, but where an LX vert.

I have a ‘92 LX 5.0 hatchback that my daughter drove and my son is driving now. They are sturdy cars with some weak points related to age. Feel free to PM me a link to it and I will look it over or you can ask any questions. I have had this one for about 10 years and had a 95 GT from 97-03 when I sold it to buy my first 911.

Thank you. The one I am looking at is green with a white top, white interior. I might be better off just getting more of a driver. This one looks like a museum piece. Silly but I might be afraid to drive and enjoy.

Sounds like it could be a good cheaper fun car and have a little bit of a cool factor.

Nonsense. Get it checked out properly and if it passes the audition, drive and enjoy. With a few scratches / dents they're even more enjoyable.

As my friend Dennis says, "Perfection is boring."
