Junk mail, why is it still a thing?

Cannot believe the amount of junk mail I receive in my mailbox. I've asked the mail delivery person to not leave it. They said they are legally required to put it in every mailbox. Do people still scour grocery store ads, home improvement booklets, and various solicitations for business? Not sure what percentage is either re-cycled material, or is being re-cycled, but what a waste either way.

Don't get me started on Amazon packaging. Where are the environmentalists when we need them. LOL.

End rant.

Junk mail doesn't make it into the house. I have a big Home Depot moving box in the garage for it and I walk past it between the mailbox and going into the house.

I believe the USPS loves it because that's where they make most of their money, as opposed to 1st class mail in days gone by. So no way they'll stop delivering.

I went through and did a bunch of ^that^ at a previous address, and it helped.

Agreed. I have an 18 inch deep pile of mail between the shop and the house each week, and out of that maybe 4 -5 items are of any sorts of importance .
Save the trees man!

I Googled and came up with this...
What percent of USPS is junk mail?

Here are a few I've come across: In 1972, junk mail was roughly 25 percent of all mailpieces delivered. In 1982, that jumped to 32 percent, according to Leonard. In 2019, it was 63 percent.

Not sure how much they are making on the junk mail - I think that mail gets a discount.

Im surprised you guys you guys have that problem.

Around here we put a tiny sign on the letter box that says "No junk mail please." and we never get it.

Still looking for how much profit the USPS makes on junk mail.
One source had 100 million trees cut down for junk mail.

They go straight into the recycling bin on the walk up the driveway.

It must work or they wouldn't do it? ...but who is it working on?
