"Sure... Anything 1971 and high performance". (Mustang content)

I do love these cars! When I was a kid they were the ultimate dream car. Very few of these made it to Australia and the ones that did were big $$$ & butchered (Privately imported and converted to RHD ) Things are a lot better now because we can now drive LHD cars legally.

Enjoy

I don't know, Peter, but I just can't seem to get on board with these ill handling American Irons. Grew up in the 80s when smaller Japanese cars were entering the socal market while the rest of the country were still driving Fords and Chevys. The small group of us in socal were drag racing and beating on these foreign weaker 4 bangers.

Some of them do look ok, but I have grown to like their looks. Still, I can't get over the looks of the early to mid 60s vehicles. Trucks on the other hand, I do like.

Interesting. Of the early mustangs, the 71-73 are my least favorite. Not that they aren't cool, I just prefer '67-70.

Last week on a run to Walmart a stang came up behind me and moved into the next lane - both of use in pole position at the light.

It looked good in my rear view mirror from the front - it was a GT and looked the part. Nice twin tailpipe exhaust - not super loud but nice throaty sound.

He drove it well too. Not reckless at all - but nice accelerations at the proper points.

I kept up in my Volvo wagon....

As I recall, the "detuning" of Muscle Cars began with the '71 model year, with 1970 pretty much being the height of horsepower.

My next oldest brother had a '90 LX 5.0 and put a Paxton super charger on it. And a line lock. Would smoke the back tires...lol. He called it his Vette hunter.....

Yes, '70 was the peak. After that, emissions stuff got added, compression came down, etc.... I think you could still get decent stuff in '71-'72. You can probably do some relatively minor mods to a lot of those to bump things up a bit. I also believe a lot of it had to do with how HP was rated by the manufacturers. I think because of the HP wars, a lot of the ratings were done with no parasitic accessories. I think it's kind of like how most 0-60 times today are done with rollout (I think that's the right term) which means that you get a tiny boost in the 0-60 time.

Horrible! What's Mustang content doing on a Porsche board?

Fun video...thanks for posting. Great story.

I had a 64 1/2. Bought a wrecked GT 350 (another story, very sad) and put that cobra in that mustang coupe. Sure not a 911, but on the freeway, I ate a few up. Did crazy stuff with that car. I sure miss it, but school and the future called.
