Even though this is old school light water design, it is still pretty awesome!
Build on a factory floor and ship to site. No more custom designs. Need X power, string together Y units. And given its size it is all passive cooling. No pumps to break or go out of service. Need load following, just dial down a few. Whole plant needn't go offline for service. Lastly, unit can go to another factory for disassembly when at the end of its service life and recycled under a standard procedure. Wish this would have been done 20 years ago. There isn't really anything new in this even 30 years old. https://arstechnica.com/science/2022/07/us-regulators-will-certify-first-small-nuclear-reactor-design/?comments=1&start=80 If only it were thorium. |
I have been following this for a number of years. I hope the Idaho site ends up getting the funding.
