Soldano SLO 30 mini

I know this is no replacement for the SLO 30. However for a 12 X 14 music room I think if could work well.

Anyone who has one what are you using for a cabinet?

I’ve seen reviews stating this is a phenomenally good amplifier not even considering the price.

I’ve seen reviews stating it’s very close to the SLO 100 in tone but obviously not power.

I know there is a ensuing tube vs solid state debate coming…

Anyhow my attraction to Soldano amps comes from the encounter I had with these two albums when was around 10 years old.

Anyone who knows these two albums, plays a strat will know the magic that was achieved and was unequalled at that time and is still unequalled.

I got one when they first came out and I had an SLO 100 too. The mini gets the tone, but it's not going to do much in a 4x12. It's very speaker sensitive. Maybe grab an unloaded 1x12 cab and experiment with various speakers.

I can't add anything of real value to this thread (a common theme of mine), but I will say that I always loved Michael Houser's (Widespread Panic) tone with his Soldano.

I need to check out Clapton's...

The quintessential SLO tone is most of the VH F@#K album. But the older I get, the less distortion I use. So it's vintage Marshalls for me these days.

An epic thread could be had on nothing but the subject of guitar/amp tone, but I agree on the less distortion. I've never needed "metal" levels of distortion. I am mostly a Marshall guy but also love the sound of Orange amps.

When I had my SLO, I almost exclusively used the crunch, not OD, channel. The Mini doesn't clean up as much, so it's pretty distorted. I recently got a Marshall 4010 and it's such a fire breather, I have to tame the distortion with 12AT7 preamp tubes and may go down some more. My Friedman Dirty Shirley is too dark and can use a boost now and then. But she's for sale to make room for the 4010.

Just played through my Marshall 4010 at full tilt for about and hour. Geezus, this amp is the tone of the gods. It's so, so awesome. I so want to use it for my next gig, but may not be able to use in that venue it at the volume it needs to be at for that tone. Next two gigs are with my Rush tribute, so I'll probably bring my GK 250ML along with an A/B pedal to switch between the songs that need a tube or SS amp.

Are you talking about the SL0 30 or mini?
