The Automotive Art Thread
Post 'art' images of cars; maybe not photos, but illustrations, paintings, etc.
Here's a sampling of Bruce McCall's fantastic take on American Iron: |
Great subject!!
I hope this thread gets some traction. (traction, get it? heh heh) Here's two examples, similar subjects but outrageously different style: Peter Helck and Robert Williams. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1659710199.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1659710199.jpg |

Remember when Sports Car Graphic magazine used to have a centerfold of art?
I saved some of those by doing decopage(sp?) on pieces of plywood. Didn't turn out as well as expected as I didn't know you were supposed to 'seal' the paper when doing it. These have been hanging in my garage since I moved in some 35 years ago. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1659711104.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1659711104.JPG I have one more that turned out a lot better but it's behind a bunch of stuff that's hanging from the rafters so I couldn't get a picture of it. |
here was the art i made last winter. golden hour, lake, and a fantastic car:

Really looking forward to this thread!!!

I don't have any, but I love the old race posters, especially the older stuff from 50-100 years ago. The stuff that Herr and Scott posted are the kind of thing that works for me.
Here's automotive art. Arthur Kar from L'art de l'Automobile https://i-d.vice.com/en_uk/article/bvmxzw/chanel-metiers-dart-2022 https://video-images.vice.com/_uncat...4083644-1.jpeg Quote:

My daughter and I strolled through Carmel once, when we went up to Monterey. The car art vibe is strong there. It's the only place I've ever visited where there are whole galleries devoted to automotive art (as well as sprinklings of car art throughout the various other boutique-y shops there.

This will be my first time going to Monterey Car Week in the upcoming two weeks. I will try to remember to snap a few pics of car arts for you guys.

There is a pet store in Carmel that is incredible.

Leo Bestgen. His "Side Glances" illustrations for Peter Egan always fascinated me because with just a very few lines he would add the salt and pepper to PE's wonderful prose...

Scott, I really like the way those Sports Car Graphic pieces look... the discoloration adds something, IMO.
Here are a few acrylic and mixed media paintings I did during college and a year or so after... lousy digital camera photography... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1659729091.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1659729170.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1659729216.JPG |
Here are two other pictures I had out in the garage. These turned out better than the others as I had learned to cover the whole piece with glue before doing the deco thing.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1659733241.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1659733241.JPG These are on some 3/4" plywood so not light weight at all. |
Not really art, just a photo I did the same thing to as the others.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1659734077.JPG Funny, all of these are easily over 45 yrs old now. |
Does Rat Fink count? I used to think his drawings were so cool when I was young.
