Anyone been to Mexico recently?
More specifically Ensenada, Baja California? Mrs. Lee and I were thinking of going over Thanksgiving weekend. I know it can be crazy down there, but we're not looking for drugs or binge drinking at night. We were thinking of driving to SD, spending a night there and then heading down for a few days. Not sure if I can get away with taking a rental car and buying the Mexican car insurance online or in Gile Bend on the way. Any ideas?

Well Rick a rental is okay but ask at a "Mexico Insurance" place such as across the road from the Dennys at the E Street exit from the I-805. You might want to call ahead a ask one of the young ladies at a San Diego location to make sure about the rental. Some of the rental car companies don't want you to even leave SD County let alone go to Mexico!

There's a way to not wait in line coming back. You might have to stay in certain hotels to get that set up.

Tijuana, Rosarito, Ensenada, not the fun towns they were 30 years ago.
I wouldn't recommend the trip, but if you go, absolutely do not drive at night, stay in the main touristy areas, and try not to stick out. Really makes me sad/angry what the Cartels have done to Baja... |

I'm not really looking for adventure travel when Mrs. Lee is with me, so touristy stuff and good food is about as wild as we get. We had a great time in TJ about three yrs. ago, figured Ensenada would be way more scenic and less ghetto'ish.

If you haven't been, you might consider catching a flight out of Phoenix to Puerto Vallarta and take cab rides everywhere, no worries. I love Baja but we've had wonderful trips to PV. The ocean, the jungle and it's not a dusty border town like Ensenada.

I've been there (PV) three diff times. It's the best place I've been in Mexico (for a resort area)

I'm not a resort vacation person. If I had my druthers, I'd ride my bike down the Baja with $100 and a cell phone on me and enjoy the adventure of getting out of jams. Mrs. Lee, being Chinese, is not into sun bathing, but enjoys good scenery and food. So I don't think we'll ever go to a resort outside of the convention trips I win with my insurance carriers each year.
