I have been in PCA for the majority of my life. I joined in 1976. I have meet hundreds of great PCA member and have many life long friends form PCA. The only real jerks I met were during some of the oil booms. The gold chain guys that wanted something more expensive and better than the Corvettes of the 80s. They ALL vanished when the oil bust came.

I have seen countless times of fellow PCA members helping other members and teaching and sharing. I know many people are not the club type, and all I can say is you are just missing out, but that is your choice.

Sure, every club has a few grumpy old men, but that is part of men getting old. We have had a few that started complaining about how something was done. We asked them to show us how it should be done, and a few took on the challenge, and made a better event, and got them involved and working to make a better club.

I agree with Glen and I’m part of Sugars 5%, even though my current 911 is 12 years old.

I joined the PCA a solid year or two before attending anything. I had a vision in mind of people that drove their brand new cars and wouldn't have the time nor the desire to welcome a working college kid driving an old 1966 912 that was deep in the process of restoration.

But I was wrong. And Glen was one of the friendliest people in the club. He, and others, made me feel very welcome regardless of my own personal views of myself or my Porsche. In fact that experience is what influenced me in how I treated new attendees to any event. I went out of my way to be friendly and talk to them.

A seven speed manual transmission? It seems to me that it's a very poor engine that has such a narrow power band that it needs 7 gears. Unless I'm on the track I often skip 4th on my 5 speed 911.

I had to laugh at Leno saying his Carrera 2 hunkers down at 100 mph. My coupe feel like it's about at V1 at that speed. It must be the weight of all those extra cams in Jay's car. :D

Another guy said Porsches are, "...built to last." Until they started dipping the bodies, I would say, "Porsches are built to rust." I've probably parted out half of dozen five and six year old 356s and 912s because the bodies were rusted away.

Serious question: can't air cooled and water cooled passions coexist ? We are all supposed to be car guys/gals . It's fine if you enjoy the air cooled . It's fine if you enjoy the water cooled . They are just time stamps from a great car manufacturer .

My passion started with my brothers 1969 912 . When I was able to purchase my first was a 74 911S targa . Then a 87 944S . Then built a 914/6 GT clone . Then a 83 911 SC . Then a 02 986 S . And now a 996 C4 .

I enjoyed owning/driving/wrenching on all of them . I had a passion for all of them . I wave to any Porsche I see when driving . I am a member of PCA . I don't look up or down to any Porsche model . Maybe I am just an oddball 😋

Certainly. Much like the SC vs Carrera bickering, mostly done in fun and not a serious argument. My first Porsche was a 1974 914 2.0 that I ordered to my specs. I drove it as my only car until I bought my 86 El Camino in 1991. The 914 was a weekend toy, but not air conditioned. My wife insisted I get a car with AC for her to want to ride in. So I bought the 85 911 in 1995, and sold my 914.

In 2017 my wife wanted a Macan. She went to the Porsche web site a "built" her car with the options and colors she wanted. So in 2017, it was delivered. My name is on the title, but it is her daily driver. It is a great car and like a space ship conspired to my old 80s cars.

I have never had anyone put down my cars, and usually they come and admire them. Both are conversation starters.

I admire, and feel camaraderie with, people who wrench on their own cars. That's not hard to understand given my past with the cars. That's the dividing line for me. To a person, the Porsche owners I know who wrench on their own cars own older air cooled cars, so it's a sort of natural selection.

I don't have any interest in Porsche sedans and station wagons. To me that looks like paying the Porsche tax for a car that does what a Toyota or Chevy would do, which comes across as badge snobbery to me.

Bottom line - it's complicated.

I’m on my 6th Porsche now of almost all versions (started with an 83 944), I think the biggest attractions are fun driving and build quality. I am always happy jumping in my 06 Cayman S, and always happy when I get out. We get winter here so every spring it’s like a new gift to uncover the car and go for a drive!

I like some of the new ones but can’t justify the costs, so I’m always looking at older models and if taken care of, I know they will last a long time.

Great video, great seeing this again. Myself, 3 air-cooled Porsches over many years, belonged to PCA for a while in the 90's but couldn't seem to penetrate the club scene. Our daughter took her driver road test in the 84' Carrera (passed first time) and one son took it to his Sr Prom., went all over the eastern US in those cars. The only failure we ever had was the A/C switch shorted out in the console in Charleston, SC which I fixed with a bit of sandpaper. The most dependable old cars out there. We still have the 993 which doesn't get enough road time anymore, but it sure is still willing to go! I have had lots of seat time in a Boxster S and a 997S, loved them both but never moved beyond the 993 in ownership.
To me the whole Porsche thing was and is a great, dependable driver's car that needs little maintenance beyond what the book clearly tells the owner to do to keep them running in fine shape. I could go one a long time about the steering, seat position, suspension, the solid feel of the entirety, etc. but there are books full of that.

I could not be bothered to watch that entire thing. Snore. I have owned 4 Porsche in my life, the most recent my newly acquired 2014 Cayman S. I have driven an absurd number of cars in my life. Porsche makes excellent automobiles. The sound, the handling, it is a fantastic experience driving one. I don't own any Porsche gear, but I see nothing wrong with them making money off their brand. I don't see anyone claiming their wares are junk. And I disagree with the comparison with Harley. I don't feel like they have over exposed their brand, or that their products are not relevant to young people. My daughters 20 year old ex boyfriend (still friends) is a car guy, the Porsche brand still has great value with their age bracket, definitely halo cars.

Just watched the vid. I am working on a house right off that road (Palos Verdes) along the beach so I am there few times a week. There are lots of Porsches there.

No need for me to talk about the Porsche magic because all know it well. I think it was Noah that said the Porsche crowd had changed an I agree with him 100%. I have never joint any car clubs but do go to our local meets once or twice a year. Most of the guys are great and simple people. Not the large car meets, that's a different crowd. I suppose I know most of the guys that show up at our local meet up so they go easy on me but the large shows, they seem to be a bit snobbish. I still have three air cool cars that I must force myself to drive when possible. I get to the point that I don't take the 993TT out due to people who always have BS to say. I have a factory Turbo S aero tail. Someone will always tell me that's the wrong tail for my car and the next question is always, " is that a real Turbo, can I see the intercooler"? Sick of having to answer to all that. For the most part, they leave me alone on the 930. I noticed the pattern. Most of these guys are in the late 30 to about late 40ish. Weird, I found.

Talk about a different crown. I was invited to a Ferrari unavailing of the Roma in the Torrance dealership. Oh boy, talk about the wine and cheese crowd. These guys were something else. First off, we have to be in our monkey suits. I listen to some of their conversations. They talk of their other f cars and their Aston Martin are so plush that nothing comes close to their performance or comfort. I mentioned the big benz or BMWs are good coupes and they corrected me fast. Do not enjoy that and I think Porsche and their newer owners are headed that way. Still, I drive the wheels off my Cayman S. In the back of my mind, I am still thinking about buying a modern turbo before I start driving like an old man.
