Busy Automotive Week or so for Unclebilly…
Looks like my 76 Turbo is leaving my herd. I have loved owning it for the past 9.5 years but it’s time to move it along.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1661051517.jpg To make up for this, I’ve bought a spec Miata race car that was built by a friend who is ‘meticulous’ about everything. He had an on track incident with it 3 weeks ago and it needs some work. I had planned to do it myself but this morning sent an ‘off the cuff’ text to a friend who has a frame machine and wound up dropping the car off with him this morning (never even unloaded it from my trailer after picking it up). The car is a British Racing Green 99 NB. By farming out the repairs, it prevents this from getting backburnered so I think a good move. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1661051404.jpg The 04 Cayenne has been in my shop for a AC condenser replacement. If you have a Cayenne and need to replace the condenser, I suggest you just roll it off a cliff. I screwed around for 5 hours at least trying to deal with the 4 bolts associated with the connections on the condenser. The angle is stupid, I had to buy a flex extension to get it apart and back together. I had a 2 hour bolt… It eventually had a cutting slot cut in it and was put on my lathe to have a taper put on the end to make it so I could start the bastard… I think this is a crappy job amplified by crappy aftermarket replacement parts. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1661051861.jpg I drew a hard vacuum to 30 inches of mercury and packed it in for the night. Tomorrow I will replace the leaky valve cover gaskets and the spark plugs, change the oil and put it back together. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1661052068.jpg |
I've done quite a but of a/c work in my day and there is nothing worse than changing out a condenser on a car that had previously been in a front end accident.
Tomorrow, I get to straighten out her wreck from last week. |
Selling the Porsche  please don't do it.

Its a blessing and a curse to have so many cars to take care of. Currently have 6 in the house including the race car. There's always something going on.

I sold my 77 930 this week, too! Picked up a 15 Macan S on Friday and it needed a lot of TLC. Worked most of Friday, claying, polishing, waxing. Then scrubbing wheels, tires and interior. Put new rubber mats Saturday and tinted the front windows.

Hit the nail on the head unclebilly re;condenser repair. Porsches are well engineered cars, but working on them can be a frustrating, expensive endeavor. That’s why I sold my Cayman and bought an Audi TT. Engine in front, oil filter on top of the engine, coil packs, plugs right there in front of you. Got Porsche’s out of my system and moved on…
