Retired from ATC atc at 45. The first time.... We don't have the age restrictions Ted faced with the FAA. Focused on my business which is now grown amazingly. I got an offer I could not refuse to go back to ATC while running my business. I have amazing talent in my staff, so I went back to ATC while still running and working in my business. But any day could be last ATC day. I am 53 now. I decide each morning when I have a "shift" to work if I will go in or pull the pin.

The wife and I travel multiple weeks each year. She runs her own business as well. She actually travels more weeks per year than I do (she can run her office from anywhere with internet and phone).

I enjoy my business, working on the cars we see has always been a passion and every day is like walking into a car museum. So it puts a smile on my face. But planning for succession....

Cheers

Since NWO has taken full effect, I can safely say "What's retirement?" I will work myself to the grave. FJB

52 the first time (military). Last one was at 60, almost 2 years ago. The last one is sticking very nicely.

Quit 15 years ago at 50. No side jobs, or other paid employment since then.

No complaints.

Like some Pelicans, I retired after an illness/injury. For me, it was a stroke at my office. I was running an asset management company at the time and worked 60+ hours a week and always on call to the company owner. I had to learn to walk again and get my mental faculties straight. It took about a year until I felt better. The company kept asking when I was coming back. Thinking about things, I said, "F that, I'm outta here." I had investments and rental properties, so I was pretty comfortable. That was in 2000 and I was 35.

That also allowed me to care for my mother when she got sick. I was doing that until February of this year when she passed. Life is too short. Spend it with the ones you love.

Then finally they retired him. He had only be retired for about six months and hadn't done any fun things, then one day just woke up dead.[/QUOTE]

That's the way I wanna go!!

Retired in 2003 at age 52. In 2015, my friend got elected a County Coroner and had no help. I said I'd hire on a as deputy Coroner until he got things going. 7+ years later, still doing it, but usually only schedule on week a month. A week of working 24/7. It's starting to get old and have to find a way to ease out the door...
