Like military spending to support our 'allies' and subsidies to farms and pharms, the US is the world's sugar daddy.

https://www.zdnet.com/home-and-office/networking/chattanooga-the-first-10-gigabit-internet-city/ I'm lucky. While Google didn't bring 1-gigabit internet to Asheville, NC, my local ISP, Charter-Spectrum, guarantees me 100Mbps speeds but I usually see even faster speeds: 125Mbps. That's great. But, off to the West, in Chattanooga Tenn., the Electric Power Board of Chattanooga (EPB), a publicly owned utility, is bringing 10-gigabit internet to its customers. https://money.cnn.com/2015/03/25/technology/tennessee-fcc-internet/index.html But now Tennessee is suing to stop Chattanooga -- and strengthen the control that cable companies have in the state. This is an Internet provider turf war. Last month, the Federal Communications Commission stepped in to protect a city's right to provide high-speed Internet for its own residents. by Jose Pagliery @Jose_Pagliery March 25, 2015: 4:50 PM ET

Get off my lawn!

![]() I am on Cox Cable. I have the TV cable with several premium channels, and 4 email addresses. I upgraded my internet to their "Gigablast" service. I have never seen the full 1024 Mbps per second, to be a true Gig of speed and they said until they have Fiber connection to the house, and through the house to my modem, I never will. I "only" get the lower to mid 900s Mbps down and usually beat the designated upload speed of 35 Mbps. The main reason I have the high speed service is the upload speed. My business often produces large data files. To get them to our customers I can upload them to our Microsoft One Drive FTP site. Yesterday I had to upload just one client's files and it was a total of 12.7 GB. It consisted of 4 different Zip files, the largest was 5.9 Gig and a 5.7 gig and some small about a gig a piece files. It used to take many hours to upload the large files. Now just a few minutes. To get their Gigablast service I pay right at $100 per month on top of my regular cable TV bill. No phone service from them.
