Vehicle Registration Renewal Fees

My B'day is in Nov...so today I received notice of plate fees for my Hondas.
The Civic, being brand new, is $157
The Prelude, which is a 1998, is $123

I'll do the Civic online for the tab....but I'm headed to the DMV for the Prelude.
MI offers a historical plate for any vehicle 25 years or older.
The fee is $30 for a 10 year plate.....I'm in!

AZ I paid $56 for 5 years on a 00' civic. it was more when the POS gov. put a 32$ state highway fee per year. yet the budget had a 5 Billion (with a B) surplus.

I hear in Montana it's even cheaper and after so many years you do not have to pay the forking unconstitutional tax grab.

Make sure you know the limitations of historical plates. Some states say you can only be a certain distance from home, have to be on the way to or from a car show, etc. Some states that have emission testing drop that if you have historical plates.

Around here they are $70-80, at least I'm pretty sure that's what I paid last.

I have them on both of my 911's since 2017.
Been stopped a few times for speeding in both. Never a question about the plates.
(I was expecting something...never came)

I'm assuming they are still $30 for 10 years yet....that's what it cost for my 911's in 2017
I'll find out for sure soon when I try for the Prelude.

My only question is....if my Prelude is a 98, is it eligible for the Historical Plate? (25 years)
I'm not sure how they count/figure new plates/tabs.
Am I buying a 22 or 23 tab?

For the first time ever, something is less expensive in NZ than the US.

Now the 911 is 40 + years old I can have classic car registration. It's only $40 a year. Cheap I guess because who would drive a 40 year old car every day

Around here a ton of people drive pick-up trucks that old! But they wouldn't do that for a vintage Mustang or Corvette (no vintage Porsches, as far as I've seen).

Just checking....how is $40 a year cheaper than $30 for 10 years??

If it’s only allowed to go to car shows, etc. are the cops really going to ask and check? I see historic tags all the time.

I've been hassled on farm plates.

Give someone an excuse to pull you over and run your information and interact with unhinged trigger happy/drug planting leo's.

Washington allows you to register a vintage vehicle with a period plate. I just bought one of my grail cars, a 74 914 Can Am. While I was waiting for it I found a very nice 74 plate with the original tag. I live in Spokane. The 74 state tag commemorated the 1974 Worlds Fair in Spokane and is on this plate, pretty cool. No fees going forward. One of the few areas where WA state is decent about fees.

I live in a farming/rural area. I would guess that close to half the vehicles in my area have farm plates. Easy to obtain and never any hassle from cops.
