The little poppet valve on the throttle butterfly is an emissions thing. It is supposed to reduce excess fuel on over run. I found it just led my car to diesel endlessly when I would shut it off. Most either solder them shut or install a plain butterfly.

I flipped one a while back. It was a 66' and it was pretty darn cool. Had a 5 speed tranny, fith gear was activated with a flip of a switch. Twin su carbs, a monza rear exhaust, spoked wheels and a fresh paint job and interior. Made a good profit from it, and its somewhere in Commieforney now.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1663116473.jpg

Cool bruh! I had an 80 MGB and it just had the 4 speed and on super highways it was slow. This 66 was a trip. I have a jerk wad in a ford pick up tail gaiting me and then I flipped that switch and pulled away from it no problem. All small brit cars need that 5th gear on these crazy highways.

Yep, I wish that mine had that feature. Someone makes a 5-speed conversion but it’s expensive to buy new, I might search for a used one or a factory overdrive.

Work on the car progresses, the brakes went in yesterday. All of the brake hoses were replaced, generally speaking they should be changed every 10 years but nobody does it. Kind of like changing out the brake fluid, 99% of vehicles on the road never get it done.

These were kind of old, though:

So, all new stuff:

I also removed the air pump and associated plumbing, I’ll save it in a box so that it stays with the car. I plugged the holes with small NPT plugs. Really cleaned it up under the hood, before and after:

Salvage Hunters on Motor Trend TV did a great MGC GT. Season 2 Episode 3. I can't seem to find a video. They used an Aston Martin color and it was incredible.

It's looking great already Denis.

Unfortunately you'll become an expert at working on SU carburetors LOL

That's timely, I was just admiring an MGC GT at the local shop yesterday. I was liking it until I got to the braking system under the hood. :eek:

WTF? Dual master cylinders and vacuum chambers? Does the passenger get a brake pedal?

Here's a photo of the completed car in case the link didn't work. They do really great work. One guy is a total car guy and the other is a very successful antique dealer in Wales. He really focuses on high end and quality.

That's a beauty, for sure. +++

As far as that sort of car goes, I've always has a fondness for Sunbeam Alpines. Never owned one, just admired them (and SP 250's).

Those salvage hunter guys are ok. Didn’t really love the changes they did to their MGA coupe, spent all the money on black powder coated wheels and tossed the original seats instead of putting $ into mechanicals and other obvious defects but it’s a tv show so….

IIRC, on the MGC the plan from Drew was to powder coat the wheels as well in some dark color. Paul objected and just did them as you see in the photo, which is much nicer.

I just pulled up the MGA episode, don't think I had ever seen it.
