Flea and tick treatment for large dogs?
Can you recommend a particular brand? We’ve been using Nexguard on our dog but it requires a prescription. Have you used anything that really works? I’ve found ticks on my dog when we went camping even though she’s on Nexguard.

I used Frontline plus for years. Have switched to Pet Armor plus since it is cheaper with same ingredients. Both worked wonderfully.

We had great results with Trifexis with our dachshund for many, many years. We never had fleas or ticks when he was on it. On 2 or 3 occasions over three years we missed giving him pills. He got fleas once and ticks once. Both times we gave him a pill and that was that for pests. It did require a prescription.

Is there any place close by where the dog can swim/play in salt water?
Free, effective, and the dog has fun. |

We used Revolution for our dog for years, not a single flee or tick so I guess it worked.

I've had very good experience with nexgard spectra. It doesn't tend to knock them around like the liquid ones can sometimes do https://www.boehringer-ingelheim.com/animal-health/companion-animals-products/nexgard-spectra

We use prescription Bravecto. Our vet told me the non-prescription stuff is basically worthless and that was borne out when I tried several of them over a year or so trying to save money. None of them worked.

Simparica Trio is also excellent for fleas/Ticks. In general, all the products sold through your veterinarian are effective and safe compared to some OTC products. What ever product you choose, it needs to used consistently, long term for effective prevention. If you wait until you have fleas or ticks, then you have a battle on your hands. Also, every pet in the house needs to be on prevention (including cats), otherwise you won't stop reproduction.

Seresto collars on both of my bigger dogs. They have been using them for years. No fleas or ticks. We live where lyme is very prevelent. We have lots of trees and weeds that the dogs have free access to. I am going to pick one up for my puppy next week

Same as Sooner or later. Switched from Frontline to Pet Armor. Very happy with it.

Symparica Trio has a third dimension... it medicates your dog against heartworm... killing whatever organisms mosquitos put into the bloodstream when they suck your dog's blood. We've found it works well.
