I'm imagining the visuals along with the statement "that's not a beetle...." (you've got to imagine it in Crocodile Dundee's voice).

I'm on a facebook group for snake/reptile/insect identification in Florida. Sphynx moths come up fairly frequently. They are very cool looking. Like you said, they look like the fighter jets of the moth world.

I wish I could find the pictures of the one I saw at my Grandmother's house. It was perched above her front door at the ceiling of her porch and I thought it was the coolest looking thing. At the time I had no idea that it was a moth, I didn't know exactly what it was. I stood on a step ladder and got some really close up pictures, I remember the antennae (?) looked like feathers and it was a light color, coolest moth I ever saw.
