2022 MXON at Redbud... USA wins again finally!!!
The 75th annual MXON (Motocross of Nations... formerly MXDN) was hosted in the states for only the fifth time last weekend at Redbud in Buchanan Michigan. It had also been there in 2018. Some buddies flew up from Atlanta and we went in my motorhome. We had a blast and there were reportedly 80,000 in attendance... many from all over the world.
This year there were 38 countries competing each sending their best 3 riders. This year we had a strong team with Tomac, Sexton and Cooper. Unfortunately it rained on Sunday was was a bit of a mudder race which typically favors the Euro riders but we prevailed. Truly an amazing event to witness and be a part of with the crowd screaming and yelling each time one of our riders passed by. Evenings in the camping lots their were CRAZY! We might go next year when it is to be held in France. Hope my voice recovers by then from all the screaming/cheering. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

It was an incredible outdoor season topped off with this great triumph.
ET3 and Sexton battled hard but clean week-in and week-out, and then worked together against the rest of the world to make America great again. This is one for the ages.

I raced Redbud in 1990 and 1991 for amateur national qualifiers and I have great memories from my glory years racing this track. Back when I was a kid before internet, I always revered our team USA efforts after reading about the MXDN race in Dirtbike and Motocross Action magazines. This makes our 23rd win coming after an 11 year drought. Still get goosebumps just thinking about and typing this.

My holeshot at RedBud during the regional qualifier for nationals back in probably 1990.
The starting gate was in a different spot back then. ![]() Coming down the south hill side double doubles ![]()

Tim, that's super cool! You and Chase have Red Bud as a local track in common!
Did you ever make it across LaRoccos Leap?

Laroccos Leap did not exist back then... but if it had, as a 250c then 250b rider, I would not have attempted it. It seriously huge when viewed up close and is right after a corner. It is technically an uphill triple... The elevation change is huge and the take off shoots you up at a ridiculous angle. If you come up short you are casing it from way up with more vertical dropping vs movement in a forward direction. I think my ankles would snapped on landing. lol Many times nowadays some of the pros do not even attempt it at the annual Pro MX 4th of July race.

Larrocos leap on Saturday before the rain and mud of Sunday.

Here's a pretty great interview with Eli. He's never this animated, but you can tell he's super stoked to have been part of this.

A coworker went. I you (or your wife!) noticed a 6'5" blond haired guy that could have been him.

Yeah...congrats to the US team as 2022 MXDN champs!! I thought it's deja vu regarding Sunday's weather and track condition but the US team prevailed! I was at RedBud for 2018 MXDN and man the US team got beat. It seemed the track changed too much in 2018 (shortened some sections) but not for 2022. I'm impressed with how deep the talent are among the World MX riders.
I was at Unadilla for 1987 MXDN (camped out the whole weekend...it was crazy there, too) and I remember the weather was crappy (lots of rain) but US team won that one too. I was surprised how well Hannah rode since he was retiring (he was already past his prime...not like Tomac). I also went to RedBud Nationals several times (1984 & 1996). The LaRocco's Leap was an eye opener when first saw it in 1996. After the race...I walked the track and I could barely walk up LaRocco's take off jump...it was steep! Tim...good for you that you got to race on RedBud track!

Not Red Bud, not even modern stuff but this is kind of fun to watch, and RC seems to be having fun..
