Absolutely. I saw a colorized version of "A Touch of Evil." Horrible. Missed the whole dark character of Orson. His mean son-of-a-*****ness was lost.

Colorizing cartoons too should be abolished. But hey, any way to reach a mass market whose only idea of comedy is "Friends," and animation is "Power Rangers."

That was One of Orsons BEST performances....it's hard imagining C Heston as a Mexican though.... Janet Leigh....and Marlene Dietrich..."All your tommorows are used up."

Believe it or not, Heston was so far ahead of his time with his roles, it's jaw-dropping.

Two come to mind:

A Touch of Evil - big macho white guy playing a Mexican. I thought it worked great.

Omega Man - world destruction, zombies, and one of the first inner-racial romances in American movies.

The guy was hip!

Heres a sleeper Western by Sam Peckenpah....The Ballad of Cable Hogue....Jason Robards, Stella oh you look so great Stevens, Strother Martin and LQ Jones...guy abandon in the desert finds a water hole and builds a stage stop...

"Straw Dogs," "Wild Bunch," "Bring Me The Head of Alfredo Garcia," and the best war movie (I think) that was ever made...

"The Cross of Iron."

Sam Peckinpah was definitely ahead of his time. Current directors, except for a few foreign ones, and maybe John Demme (sp?) couldn't hold a camera lens to the man.

Of course we cant forget Planet Of The Apes and Beneath The Planet of The Apes.

Nothing like a world full of apes and telepathic mutants who worship an atomic bomb.

I read the orginal novel "Cross of Iron"....my orginal feelings were that the movie was a bit of a let down from the novel...which I would guess is the usual case except in LA Confidental the movie made sense the novel was convoluded.

James Colburn..."OurMan Flint"...in COI...Don't forget "Major Dundee" and "Pat Garret and Billy the Kid " both SP and JC movies ...Martin Scorsese...is good...Good Fellas, Sondderheim is a master of the Flashback, and telling divergent stories... I love "Outa Sight" I can actually see the development of his style through these movies.. Traffic.....to "Oceans 11" which stunk.

Nobody's heard much of the "Infant" idiot Tarantino latetely....I liked his screenplay..."True Romance", there were a lot of good performances in that one...especially Gary Oldham....as the black Detroit Pimp....God you could make a whole movie just outa that character.

But in my book the ALL TIME GREAT was Billy Wilder...the world is a lesser place without him....Double Indemity, Sunset Blvd, Stalag 17, Some Like it Hot, The Fortune Cookie, The Apartment, Sabrina, Lost Weekend, Big Carnival, 7 Year itch, Front Page, Private Life of Sherlock Holmes and Five Graves to Cairo etc.........He also had an uncredited screenplay...Oceans 11....etc...He also was a major art collector....he sold his collection in 1990 just before the market collasped for 34 million.

Tabs: you know your cinema. Better move back here and show us Hollywood schmoes how to make good entertainment.

I'd heard that Bakshi was a disrguntled ex-Disney animator that decided to go off on his own

No one seems to know that fact, and I'd be afraid to ask him.

He's like the Peckinpah of animation.

Done some damn good stuff with R. Crumb, though. And "Wizards," has always been one of my all-time favorite animated features.

He's a good storyteller, and has produced some real standout stuff.
