Singer Turbo, what say we?

File this under Why do I even care because in my lifetime, I’ll not gross enough to pay the tax bill for the average Singer buyer

But this summer Singer revealed what they call their Turbo Study.

Google it for specs.

The only reason “I” care is that this is the car I grew up with hanging on my wall.* Knowing their reputation, I’d love to see this car up close and personal.

* I’m not one for collecting things. I’ve always traveled light. If my wife kicked me out of the house, my personal items would easily fit in 2 bankers boxes. The framed print of a red 930 is one of the items I still have.

I love Porsche, all of it/them. I don't remember being specifically Porsche obsessed when I was younger, but I have had plenty of Porsche toys since I was a little kid and remember reading any Road & Track article about Porsche when I was in my teens.

That said, that era of cars, 911s from '78-89 are probably my favorites in a lot of ways.

I had (still have) one of these from when I was a kid.

I'd consider donating a testicle if I could get a nice silver 930. If I got to be a beggar, I'd want the early "whale tail" instead of the later "Tea Tray"

Im kinda burnt on resto modding classics.

However I have 100% confidence singer will do it to an absurd awe inspiring level of quality. I appreciate their level of OCD

Subtly modernised, me like.
Not a real Singer aficionado though. I more of a Ruf guy.

They took a 964 Turbo and made it into a Singer?
That would be a waste.

There is at least one tan Singer here that I have seen, was cool but for my money id rather have a real nice stock 89 930, or another 964T.

This... Singer does it well enough for me to want one however I suffer from an acute case of "Rolex taste - Seiko budget"

Great overall design but I really love the steering wheel... Retro Cool. (That alone is something most manufacturers get wrong)

I don’t know for sure but I don’t see reason to start with a 964 Turbo. The bodywork, suspension, interior and drive train is is all bespoke.

I don’t think much is left from the donor car other than the tub

I hadn’t seen that pic of the interior. That wheel, I’d definitely chalk that up to so ugly, it’s cool.

I dig the 928 inspired seats.

I really respect the work Singer, Dutchmann and Emory do but to me there is nothing worse than seeing a modern/non original spec engine etc. in a classic. I’m an original, unrestored type of car guy. I can’t even stand a shiny polished fan in a 911 that I see so many showing off here. No idea what attracts people to that sorta thing but to each there own

Leno’s restomod lotus elan gets a pass

That's like seeing someone at a Porsche meet wearing a Porsche jacket.

Well, I don’t wanna insult anyone for wearing a Porsche jacket. I just like patina, grease and originality. If I won the lottery, ide be looking for, among others, an original 356.

I’m even on the fence about swapping drum brakes for disc brakes. It’s like taking a classic Stratocaster and installing a floyd rose.

Taking classic cars and making them something they never were just isn’t my taste. I’m not against the practice, but if I had all the money in the world, I’m not sure ide buy one - despite being obviously incredible builds that deliver an incredible driving experience

I’m ok with putting a 5 speed in a bug eye sprite though. That gets a pass too

I like it. I love my turbo, and I really like my 964. To stick 'em together with even more turbo powah? Yes, please!

The only thing I wonder, is if eliminating the 930's turbo lag is a good thing or a bad one. Yeah, turbo lag glacially sucks. But when you do 0-60 in 5.3 seconds--with 0-30 in the first 4.3, and then 30-60 seemingly in the last second--that's pretty fun. Though maybe I'd only ponder that up until my first 3-second run up to highway speeds in the Singer.
