Ferrari test drive goes up in smoke

What a way to have the dream shattered . At least it didn't happen after being purchased .

Well that blows away Hollywood's habit of having fuel tanks explode seconds after the fire erupts. Shame about the car, good that they didn't get hurt.

Maybe one or both fuel pumps had this evidently common problem.
Advance to ~8 minutes.

Love F355's. That's pretty sad. Note to self: get some fire extinguishers this winter.

I follow that guy on Insta so I saw it the day it happened. Talk about dodging a bullet...imagine if it happened one drive later.

How is that?

People should not want nice things because they might go up in flames? That's what insurance is for...enjoy life and don't worry.

Does any car manufacturer install as standard equipment an on board fire extinguisher system ? Or as an option ? Not talking a handheld but a real system that you can trigger as you exit the vehicle .

I would think maybe EV's could need a system installed in or on the battery storage area . Race cars have had them for a long time , why hasn't it trickled down to every day cars ? Cost ?

I'm guessing cost AND that car fires are pretty rare.

I'm wondering if there's anything that can be done with an EV car to kill a battery fire. They usually seem pretty extreme. I want to say that I heard about a Tesla that was sent to a lot after a crash or something that caught fire. THe FD went out and battled it for hours. They'd get it out and then it would reignite. The ended up digging a whole and making a mud puddle big enough to submerge the car in. That was the only way that they were able to permanently defeat the fire.

And evidently the way the US building industry is reacting to the incidents of EV car fires is mandating the installation of sprinkler systems in new parking garages larger than 48,000sf.

OK but... How effective would a sprinkler system be in an electrical/chemical fire?

Effective enough to keep it from spreading.

That may be true but throwing water on lithium is a really bad idea.

Seems that ejector seats would make more sense than a fire extinguisher.

You'd be hoping that your car would catch fire just so you could 'James Bond' outta there...
