Refinishing chrome wheels
Long story short…recently bought a 95 Mercedes E320 cabriolet. Somewhere along the line someone had the original wheels chrome plated.
I’ve since removed them and replaced with a nice set of AMG monoblocks, but would like to refinish the original wheels back to original. Is that a realistic endeavor these days? |

Sierra Madre charges $450 dollars per wheel to have 356 wheels rechromed, so I know it can be done. Whether that is realistic or not would depend on how desperate you are.

Bolton's Classic Wheels
Address: 16516 S Western Ave, Gardena, CA 90247 Hours: Closed ⋅ Opens 8:30AM Tue Phone: (310) 429-9302 Give these guys a call when they're open. If anyone can tell you if they're worth the effort they can. I wouldn't be surprised to find out this is the shop Sierra Madre uses to do their 356 wheels. My brother has had them re-set the offset on wheels and they came out great. The late Jeff Trask, 912 guru/aficionado, would have them make up custom wide wheels for his 912's. I've been to their shop and they work on ALL kinds of wheels. Stripping the chrome back all the way to the aluminum is what would be involved, I believe, and then re-anodizing to the original finish on your wheels. Edit: It may be cheaper just to get another set of originals. I recently bought a wheel for my daughter's Suburban from these guys and it is like new. Here's what they have for your car: https://www.originalwheels.com/mercedes-wheels/eclass1995rims.php I'm 99% sure the wheels will be like new from them.
