Seems like a fad that just adds sodium to your food. I could be wrong.

I don't really see the point. I've heard and read about it and thought that it sounded interesting.
It's funny, I've read about people putting their salt blocks in the dishwasher which as you can imagine has entertaining results. I can see doing some things on a salt block maybe, but most meat puts out a fair amount of liquid. I'm not sure that makes much sense on a salt block.

Cooking on a salt block seems to me more of a tableside "instagram-worthy" thing for cute delicate things like shrimp and the like.
More useful might be one of those 1/4"+ thick "pizza steels". Mine fits my three-burner weber with room to move air around and does great with (duh) pizza but also well with burgers/sliders. Never tried steak on it as I have a cast iron skillet for that tasty product on top of a 100+kBTU wok cooker. The steel's a chonker though, it must easily weigh 15 lbs. I think mine is the "Artisan Steel" brand. https://pizzaovenreviews.com/artisan-pizza-steel-review/ Modernist Cuisine has a 3/8" one if you want to go overboard... (we're at 7200' in the northern NM mountains so it's not as if it's hot, but cooking dinner outside this summer was glorious and has greatly improved our non-AC indoor climate)

There's a guy on amazon that sells cut industrial steel sheets that work great much cheaper than the "brands".

I was gifted one of those Himalayan pink salt blocks..... Cooked on it a few time and wasn't really impressed so I stashed it in a cabinet.. forgetting that salt is hygroscopic..
Found it a few weeks later in a pool of salty slush.. I cleaned it up and vacuum sealed... its still in the cabinet..

Look like a great way to rust out a BBQ...is the salt block seller in cahoots with the BBQ grill makers?
