Miami Dolphins game

The way Amazon replayed over & over what happened to the Miami QB was reminiscence of a modern version of a gladiator down in the Roman Coliseum.

The team owner & beholden med team for Miami doesn't care about the guaranteed CTE brain damage that is present. He will be tossed aside soon, the golden Goose is too important.

They totally dropped the ball.... he obviously suffered a concussion last Sunday, and was playing 4 days later.... that was nasty.

Don't know how many concussions I had as a youth... a few. We know better now, but not everyone cares.... and it sucks.

Seahawk 09-30-2022 12:12 PM

I played both ways for Jurassic Park High School...damn near leather helmet days.

Concussions were, to put it mildly, not well understood..."how many fingers" level insanity.

Tua wanted to play, that does not mean he should have. Last week was the real issue in my mind, as KC wrote.

My best friend growing up was the All CIF AAA player of year his junior and senior years in HS. He suffered two concussions his freshman year in college, in the days when freshmen could not play varsity, and his Dad and Mom made him pull the plug.

Thank god.

Put me in coach.

^^^^ How many times did you "see stars", shake it off, and keep playing? I had my bell rung too many times to remember also ;).

And I sucked :)

"Bell rung": Brings back a lot of memories...at least I think so:cool:

I bet you didn't suck, either...

Should Tua have played? I do not know. I bet, however, the NFL is pouring over their concussion protocols looking for a better answer. They should.

I remember that! 50 years ago they weren't too concerned. I had my hand cleated in a game once - bleeding like a mofo. Coach twisted my fingers around and I didn't yelp so he said, "No broken bones. Get back in there, we'll bandage it after this possession."
Stuff like that may be reckless, but I'm glad for the steel it put in my spine.

Dad always said they should have never put facemasks on helmets. If you have a facemask, you will stick your head into places you never would if you did not.

No, Tua should not have played 4 days after getting knocked cross eyed. Doubtful he should have gone back in vs the Bills too.

Agree. The way he was staggering around, nearly fell and was helped off the field in the BB game, he should never have been allowed to return to play in that game or the Thursday night game. The NFL will need to re-evaluate the rules concerning concussions. As Seahawk states, it is a "how many fingers" mentality and that needs to change.

I had several in junior high and high school. Our field in jr high was 75% dirt. I remember one game in junior high, my head/helmet hit the ground hard. I had double vision, but I got up, turned my facemask to the front and didn’t know which huddle to go to. Somehow I made it to the right huddle and stood there during the next play. There was no running off the field requesting a substitute. You stayed out there.🤪😵

High school was sophomore through senior years. After JV practice my sophomore year, I had to run over to varsity practice to be a practice dummy. More brain damage!

This was from the Buffalo Bills game Sunday night. This clearly is not a "back injury"!

Where the NFL will get into trouble, is because they fail to follow their own protocols.

If this young man has anyone who cares about him, he is done playing football.

Maybe they mean the back of his head was injured 🤔 .

In 20 seasons of Union Rugby I too had my bell rung many times, and we didn't wear helmets. I don't remember if I sucked but other people do. :D

I think I had a concussion every Friday night playing high school football. Sometimes minor but sometimes I didn't know if we were home or away. I just knew to go after the guys with the different colored jerseys on. Back then they taught us to use your head, as your primary weapon "face in the numbers!". I broke three helmets my senior year. Some days I think my brain is still a little scrambled from those days.

read this afternoon that the "independent" NFL certified Neurologist lost his league credentials to act in that capacity any longer. so NFL of them! we won't fix protocol, we will fix that doctor.

Crowbob 10-01-2022 06:14 PM

It looks to me like the neurologist was fired because he didn’t follow the protocols or falsified his findings.
