Peeling Latex Advice

PPOT Braintrust...

The previous owners did a quick pre-sale paint everything white paint job on doors, cabinets, trim...etc with latex on oil-based paint that was not prepped at all. Does anyone have a good technique for stripping it off?

So far I've used warm soap and water with decent results....still really slow. I think I might buy a wallpaper steamer. Any type of stripper creates a gooey mess.

TIA!!!

Oh man, I have deal with so much of that siht on some of the old houses I've restored over the years. Hire a painter who has lots of patience and have him go to town. With today's labor rate, that painter may just happen to be you because no one I know of wants that job. Scrap it, or peel it off when possible because it will come off in rubber like sheets. Get a pick or semi sharp object for the intricate molding. I wish you the best of luck with it. In the past, we found it easier to have molding removed, dipped to remove all paint and repaint is much easier and better work. Heat gun may help soften the latex up. Shellac primer is what I spec out but my painter hates it.

I had the same problem on trim work in last house, I sanded it off with 100grit sandpaper. Not sure how that would work on a wall, but after sanding the wall would be ready for paint, keep a wire brush nearby for cleaning the latex from the sandpaper. Possibly try Tan colour scotchbrite?

Maybe use the previous owners face?
I hate seeing stuff like this and is why I'll do it right even if moving.

Only a very small percentage of owners know what can or can't go on top of a certain paint. Painters are hired specifying they are moving and want a good cheap paint job. I am not saying if it about doing it right or wrong, but that's the reality
