should anyone wonder about one of the main concerns about the R8, the auto mute/lockout is working great on mine. I pass the same signal 3 times and it locks out. I much prefer this to the R3, although the R3 is a damn good detector.

I am a big fan of hardwiring with blendmount

That's the mount that I've got.

Yep, I hardwired mine. I mounted it above the rearview mirror in the SHO and ran the wire under the edge of the headliner and behind the "A" pillar trim and into the fuse block.

That's similar to how I wired mine in my old targa and miatas. Mounted just under the mirror, but straight, flat wire run around the edge of the windshield under the trim until it got to the bottom corner of the windshield.

I recently upgraded from V1 gen1 to a gen2.. its a huge improvement.. with the gen1 i had to many features turned off because of falses (mainly X and K bands) Ka and Laser were left working but I was never sure of how well the Laser picked up, and many new cars messed with the Ka.. blind spot detection etc..

I haven't touched the programming on the gen2 and i just works really well.. even with X and K still active there are virtually no false alarms, and whatever filter they worked in are really effective..The Audi I'm passing or is passing me doesn't trigger any alarms..

The mount in my Cayman, hard wired.. I forgot the mfg.

Whats the latest on the greatest?

still love my R8. now that i’m used to directional arrows, ide never have one without whether R7, R8 or V1

I find the era of radar detectors has passed with the '90s.
I ditched my Valentine radar detector decades ago. I was experiencing too many false alerts, and a lot less speed traps and highway patrol sightings. So far, so good.

My RD has saved me countless times and continues to do so, especially when on the bike. Worth every penny.

Program the filtering via desktop app and no problem. The radar detectors of 10 years ago are terrible now with just the city/hwy filter and today’s cars loaded with sensors and radar guided cruise. My R8 does not give me many false alarms the way I have it setup. Laser is an issue though. Would love a laser jammer but not worth the expense to me. R8 along with Waze and I’m pretty set. Expensive but would buy again if it broke

Been using RD since I got my license in 88. Not one ticket

I've always been a very outwardly focused person whether driving or doing anything. When driving, I'm always watching the the cars ahead, and as far ahead as I can see as well as my mirrors. I keep vigil on my surroundings, and watch for cops.

I used an old V1 for many, many years. It saved me not only from radar, but also laser many times. I eventually upgraded to one of the newer V1s a few years back. I've also now been able to upgrade the new V1 over my cell phone using the V1 app. I also run the V1 app on my phone which puts the sounds through my stereo, and enables me to turn the lights off on the V1. My new V1 continues to save me. I still watch the road and my surroundings, I also run Waze for warnings and my V1. Between my "situational awareness", Waze, and V1, I'm in pretty good shape. It's been many years since I had a ticket < knock, knock, knock >. And the way I drive, that's pretty impressive.

Houston PD uses laser. I have had my V1 warn me of laser whether it came under the vehicle in front of me as it crested an over pass or possibly reflected from the car next to the car in front of me. But yeah, laser is tough. The real key most of the time is "don't be in the left (or right) lane with a huge gap ahead as you crest a rise and you're speeding". I've wanted a laser jammer for years, but I agree, it's not worth it. Especially now, that my commute is different, what I mostly run into these days is radar again.

Outstanding! Congrats on not only the reduction of traps, but also the "so far, so good".

It's been ~30 years since I was in your neck of the woods, and I was in college. I mostly remember seeing police in traffic. I don't remember many/any radar traps. My "stomping grounds" were Odessa to Sarasota to Lakeland with USF as my home base.

Agree. I've been using Waze the last few days on my new phone, it seems pretty good about reported hazards, police, and speed limits.

ramonesfreak 07-21-2024 03:32 PM

And I’m still running my R3 in my 911…. It’s great but I miss having narrows when I’m driving that car. If you wanna save $ and don’t care about arrows, the R3 is still great. Get the arrows.

Yep, arrows are the way to go.

red-beard 07-21-2024 03:52 PM

My Escort Max360 has the arrows. The Max3 in Mrs. Beard's car does not.

If one travels the same area all the time the wisdom of familiarity will be an accomplice for protection.
In my case, I have to do my version of the Gumball rally, so I need all the help I can get.
