BMW E90 clutch problem
my son bought an E90 with a clutch problem. PO claimed he could not get it to bleed after replacing clutch.
it looks like the new disk is too thick my son got it to bleed but he said the pedal was rock hard. car would not go into gear with engine running. also the car will move with clutch pushed in and in gear and starting it. he replaced all the clutch hydrolics because of it leaking still wont go into gear we pulled the tranny yesterday and i noticed straight off ALL the clutch fingers were ALL the way in. in fact almost touching part of the clutch so they will not go any further. clutch looks new. my son checked the part numbers and all came back correct. when i unbolted the cltuch the fingers retracted to normal. when i bolted it back up they compressed in again. it acts like the disk is too thick i took measurments. so not to get anyone confused on all the measurements i will state the one that concerns me. how to explain... once the pressure plate is in place and touching the disk and ready to bolt down. the pressure plate has to compress 5.5mm that seems excessive to me. what do you guys think we have another clutch package on order. first thing i will compare the disk thicknesses but again, all part numbers matched fort he car. oh, no machine work on the flyhweel i did get the wrong disk in the correct box once....just a thought. |
Interesting problem^^^^ I once procured what I thought was an OE clutch kit (Sachs) for our 911, and found out later (similar situation) that it was counterfeit. You may want to check who the kit was purchased from, if it is OE or OEM.

Had that happened on my F150
Clutch kit from the internet. Crap shot. When you get new clutch find the specs on a forum and compare to the new product and what is currently in the car |
well the new clutch came and it is exactly like the old one .
so now i can only assume that maybe the PO swapped the flywheel with a used one off the wrong car. but i have been looking at flywheels online and from the pics the "depth" of the clutch disk surface to the mounting surface "looks" to be about the same, been look for specs on the flywheel but no luck so far |
Did you reset the SAC? Self Adjusting Clutch?
