Tragic end of a decades long relationship

It was a sad morning.

He'd been deteriorating for a couple of years now and finally this morning it all came to an end.

Best fried egg flipper ever.

I will miss him.

Have one like that.

Have a half dozen spatulas in fact.

There was something about the original that was just perfect.

It's thin and has just the right balance of flex to bend and get under stuff and stiff enough that it doesn't collapse under the weight of the food.

I knew this day was coming for a couple of years and have been actively looking for a comparable replacement but have found nothing I like.

If anyone knows where I can source the same exact one I'd appreciate the heads up.

I have an "ECKO" spat, likely from some safeway in the '90s. You know it's vintage as it says "USA" on it.

Always my go-to if I'm not on a nonstick pan. I'll weep the day it dies - and am always looking for copies to keep on hand.

(and that spirit might be related to why I have two dozen 0.7mm pentel "sharp" pencils, still in the box. The perfect pencil, and now I have enough for life)

RIP Flipper - you have been a long lived and loyal friend, but now it is time to say good bye.

How about a stainless steel one.

I just don't like plastic spatulas.

We've got one, it's a good one, stamped stainless that's got a coating of some sort on the handle end. The coating is deteriorating. I'd love to pull the coating off and coat it with something. Maybe I'll make a wooden handle for it some day.

We've got another that's from a set of stainless pots that she had when I met her, probably 25-30 years old. It's stamped sheet metal welded to a bent rod. The sheet metal has a crack near the weld from being bent/flexed.

I want something like this

or like one of these.

Guessing you’re too young to know what that is.

Have metal, don't / won't use them in my pans.

I have to leave the kitchen when my wife uses a metal fork to stir stuff.

The sound of her scratching up my pans makes me cringe.

You probably know this already but I have issues.

If you want another like in OP get yourself to garage sales. Best shot it getting that as it looks like something that isn't made any longer. Probably better than the current for sale stuff too.

The best one we have is for the grill from Pampered Chef. Bottle opener, and one edge is sharp enough to cut.

I still have a hand me down from my mother, likely from the 70s.

The company was Ensar out of Wheeling IL.

No longer around.

I can't complain too much I guess, had the thing 30 or so years and used it pretty much daily.

I've fixed some spot-welded-then-eventually-broken pot lids with Cu rivets. I'm wondering if I should preemptively spend hours and dollars on my < 2 dollar safeway-spat, or just work through the tears to fix it when it (inevitably) breaks.

And yes those insta-worthy and glamourous spatulae referenced elsewhere are fabulous, but I like what I have...
