When one tree became diseased I needed more tool so I rented a gas saw for a few hours and got it done. This approach has worked well for me and I passed the 120vac saw off to my SIL when we moved.

Only small trees at this place so a few years off before I need another chain saw but it will probably be cordless. I currently have cordless drill/driver, impact driver, sawsall, light duty snow blower, leaf blower, string trimmer, tire inflator. All have exceeded my expectations and they are very quiet.

If your property is small enough that 120V works, I have to think that they will be far more powerful than a battery powered saw of the same age. Since I'm on almost 6 acres, running a cord wouldn't really work for 95% of what I'd need cut.

^^^ I doubt most people with a battery chain saw would attempt that.

They are not intended for that.

Yeah, trimming on something that big with a battery powered seems like wrong tool for the job.

I've used gas chainsaws for decades and never had a close call. Have a suspended ms260 that I love and care for, but hate dealing with gas and putting the motor to nite-nite when I'm done.

Wife got a little corded dewalt last year. Is light and torquey. I used it on laurel and was happy until the battery ran out after 25 minutes. Battery takes an hour to charge so pretty much its a useless thing unless you're prepared to go deep with batteries.

I can reach lots of stuff with my big cord so I bought a makita 4051 on amazon warehouse for $110. Arrived and... thing scares the crap out of me. Crazy torque, things a monster. The thing about electric saws is that the torque increases as the speed drops. They'll cut right through traditional chaps so I bought new 'corded saw rated' chaps from husqvarna.

Thing is an absolute beast and outlasts me but wow is that torque scary. No soft start either. Can't imagine I'll ever use that battery thing again, makes me mad that we bought it even though I was afraid the battery would be a joke.

^^^^ I didn't watch it (the video, again), but it's been posted before. With no reflection on any of the battery powered saws, all Stihls and their chains are not created equal.... Two can look virtually identical and be on totally different levels in terms of their performance. Just my .02 and a big ol' "grain of salt"..... some Stihls (and particularly the chains they sell to homeowners) are like dull butter knives compared to their razor cutting beasts imo.

Just remember.... you read this on the Internet too :D

Know what you are comparing .... That is all.

Wow, crazy. I had a corded saw many years ago. I have no idea where I got it. I think it was left in the house that we bought or was given to me. It wasn't nearly that impressive.
