PCA Members here?
Anyone here a PCA member? There is a local chapter (Potomac) that do a lot of activities in / near my area. I like the idea of drives to local wineries, but the pix I see are mostly about late water-cooled cars. Very few air-cooled stuff. I like meeting new people, having fun, enjoying our car. I don't think I would join, but show up where they will be, see what the climate is............

I've been a member for 47 years...good outfit!
|
Been a member since the 80s.

I joined in 1976, it is a great group. I would have joined in 1974, but I could not find the club back then. Long before the internet was a dream, there was no way to find the club. The dealership looked at me like I was asking about the unicorn fan club, but they mostly sold VWs.
Yea, the air cooled cars are just OLD and not many people like me keep driving them. Even in the days when I had just a 914, I never felt the derision of owning a lesser car. Now I get many of the guys with new GT3s and Turbos coming over to my car and saying how much they love the old air cooled 911s. I have dozens of life long friends that I met through the club. It is a major part of my life. |
I have been a member a couple of times, but not currently. I am in the local groups facebook group despite having my membership lapse. I haven't done much with them, but the few times that I did, it was always a good time with great people. The local group had a good mix of early and late cars from 356s and up including various 550 (Beck, etc...).
I found that I was a year behind on reading the mags, and wasn't going to any of the events, so I let my stuff lapse. I'm just not that social, and pretty unlikely to get up early on a Sat for any reason. Maybe if we still lived in Friendwood where the monthly meet was held less than a mile away. |
One of our local PCA members is a super nice guy, that just happens to own THE very oldest Porsche sold new in North America. Verified be Porsche. He has the complete history of the car from the first sale, and every owner after.
It is a 1952 Pre A cabriolet. |
I have made some life long friendships through the club. 21 years.

Just like 911 rod. |
Have been a member since about 2003 I think.
There are still old air cooled cars at the events here, but definitely more newer ones, which makes sense. |
Ok - so then we would most likely be the loud, obnoxious couple, not everyone else? I'll take that!
|
They are good people. Sadly, as we and our air cooled cars get older, we get replaced by the newer and younger set. At our club events, there are still some diehard air cooleds that show up, but ti transitioned to wasserpumpers about 5 years ago with a change in leadership. Still good people.

Been a member for quite a while . I started with various air cooled and transitioned to water cooled . PCA can be a lot of fun , you get out what you put in .
|
Been a member since 2006. Pretty good social club for all things Porsche and the people are often as interesting as the cars. I have met a lot of interesting people from racing, film, music industry, and technology through the PCA.
Within PCA there are many sub groups including the air-cooled group, the 356 group, the barn find restoration group, the touring group, the track rats, and the concours group. Everyone seems to get along pretty well and most make long term friendships within their particular tribe. |
15 year member here
I always enjoy the events and the people. Went to Parade 2 years ago and had a great time!!! |
15years
|
I'm a member, but never participate in any functions.
|
I was a 15 year member, but got out of it when I sold my 930. I was only in it for the DE’s.
|
I was a member as long as I was active in AX and Time Trials. Very active track club (Golden Gate Region in SFBay). Good outfit. I would definitely NOT be doing wine and cheese stuff. They had that demographic too and we would see those people at the annual banquet. No thanks. Haha.
|
Yes, for quite a few years. Our club is relatively small yet we just started a "classic" sub group which does a few drives, tech sessions, etc.

20 years ago back when AC Porsches were still common was active in San Diego PCA.
PCA taught me AX, DE, TT and W2W/Club racing and car control skills. :) Became a PCA instructor and was an announcer at the San Diego PCA Parade AX. Today PCA DE/TT is mostly filled with Caymans. :( 10 years ago I left PCA and now vintage V8s race mostly with VARA. https://www.vararacing.com/ http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1667903127.jpg |
