Milwaukee tool bags---pretty darned nice

Have a detached garage with the big tool chest but it gets a bit tiresome walking back there to grab tools commonly used around the house. Have also started doing oil changed in the driveway thanks to the utter simplicity of the process on my current ride.

So i bought a small under bench chest for the front garage but it was rapidly becoming a giant junk drawer. Saw a solution mentioned on another forum and after trying it out i have to say this was the right answer for me. I've got screwdrivers in one, wrenches in another and sockets in the third.

I’ve had a couple of sets of those for several years. Love ‘em. I got used to this idea through my site work. When you’re climbing all over an 18-24M antenna, you learn to make smart choices about the tools you haul up with you as well as a way to keep them secured. All manners of belt tool bags, carabiners, etc.

At home I have nut drivers in one, screwdrivers in another and small small pliers, dikes, channel locks in the third. For those times I don’t want to wear a tool belt around the house.

Here is what I have used for a lonnngggg time. Pricey now, but used to be able to find them second hand for next to nothing.

Just load the Assistant up for the task and away you go.

I think Ikea has a less expensive version:

I like that. I have the same situation and use a Klein Lineman's bag for my house tools. I've had it for 25+ years but everythings just thrown in there. I could see getting the pouches and putting them inside the bag. And I see the Klein bags are stupid expensive these days

Bucket Boss makes good stuff. I've carried one of their tool rolls in my trunk for years. Here's a fairly extensive look at their products:

https://www.lewiscontractorsales.com/bucket-boss-tool-bags-belts-acc.html

Always a fun topic...tools and where/how we keep 'em. Tons of good options out there, depending on the jobs and needs.

(edit) Fortunate for me that my garage is attached...so a short distance to my 3 chest rollaway if I need anything in it.

I have various size Dewalt tool bags. From 12 inches to 24 inches.

The Dewalt bags are solid. Each time I buy a new tool they come with their own bag, I have 4 extras now that serve this very purpose. Along with a full size large one that holds damn near everything.

Love those soft tool bags. I jsut wish they do away with the stupid molded plastic boxes for drills (maybe they have already?). Bought a couple of Milwaukee drills two years ago and those stupid boxes requires the entire content emptied in order to get the tool back in and buckled up again for transport. One screw, one screw will cause you to do just that. Flip that damn thing only having to pick up the few loose screws, drill bits and dump them back in after drill, extra battery and charger again until the next time it get used.

I also like the old fashion metal boxes.

Does that have a hard bottom? If it does, it's something I would use. I don't like soft bottom bags.

For transporting tools from upstairs toolbox to downstairs toolbox/outside, I use a Dewalt double-sided handle in the middle plastic box. No idea what it's called but they are great. Just throw tools in, work, throw tools in, and off you go.

I still use an old 5 gal bucket with a tool liner. Like, but not this one

Heavy canvas bottom, stretched across a rigid wire frame. It always keeps its shape just like you see it.

To clarify for those not into clicking on links this is what i'm referring to-

Small enough that you can't make a giant **** show out of it. Like large pencil cases.

Excellent, thank you. I might get this for my transmission rebuild tool set instead of a hardback suitcase with foam cutouts.

I like using bags to store specialty tools. I have my Ken Onion knife sharpener in a Dewalt bag like above.
When I'm doing projects around the house, I don't like looking for things in a bag.
I prefer a hard container with no top so I can see everything.
I have one like this that I made myself.

Nice. Those are some tight (box joints?). (dovetails?) hard to see for sure from this angle. Nice though.

Years ago, when we downsized from a house and went to live in an apt, I wanted to have some tools on hand, so I bought these.

~18" long, just a big, open bag with a few "pockets" lining the outside and inside (mostly unused).

18" tech tool bag

I ended up paring down to just the top one. It's a pain in the rear though because I invariably want something that's on the bottom of the bag and have to take almost everything out. Then I have a huge mess.

I'm pretty sure they are dovetails designed to keep the end plates from separating from the sides. It's hard to tell, but they look like dovetails on the side to me. Agreed, nice box. I need to make myself one of these!

That's just a picture from the internet.
Mine is 4 pcs of wood screwed together and a broom handle

The only thing that bugs me from time to time is that they are permanently cabled together.. At least mine are. Would be nice if they could be separated from each other as needed. I've thought of cutting the cable and using a snap carabiner instead.

Otherwise, they are well made, have held up for me over the last 5 yrs or so through rough use on sites.
