Outdoor gear that's not meant for the likes of me.
I got an REI catalogue today and they highlighted an outdoor gear company that caters to women of color. Are there special crampons that only black women can wear? Or a special tent? Do they dare not support a company that would deign to sell their product to a white male? I don't get it.

I agree with Paul.
My big brother bought me membership to REI in 1974 for $15. They have changed dramatically in 47 years along with the outdoor activities they cater to. I have not always liked the directions they went when fashion became as or more important as function but they have always sold top quality purpose built gear for the outdoors peeps no matter what race, gender or religion involved. They continue to do so IMHO. I've noticed over the years it's much more common to run into women up in the wilderness, I'm all for it! Too much being read into one particular catalog, the one I just got has mostly caucasian models and enthusiast now that I look at it closely... I'm really just looking at the gear, I don't care who is using or wearing it.

A former business acquaintances wife was let go by REI a few months ago...I had a great pipeline into paying full blown wholesale
 This is not woke, it is smart: How do you create new markets in a very, very competitive arena? They have got to change. Look at all advertising: There are more mixed racial couples, gay couples and women in different roles selling America than ever before. Ad folks know stuff we don't. They only ads, and I record most of the stuff I watch on TV, that I think are offensive are the McDonald's ads with the black patois: Imagine those same ads tailored to, a term I loath, Hispanics? The original store in downtown Seattle had creaky wooden floors and ramps to different levels... never knowing where things have been moved. It was always an adventure going there before our outdoor backpacking trips. Ah, the good old days of hunting and foraging. Now almost anything you want is just a few keystrokes and clicks away. Gotta say the gear has gotten soooo much better, technology has it's good bits for sure!

We have a supplier named Campmor out here. They started as two guys in a little store with the creaky floor and bad lighting back when backpacking was getting very popular. I got truly personal service, top gear at a good price and never an issue with repairs etc. Then they hit the big time. I haven't shopped there in years.
