M. Night Shyamalan movies good and bad

I'm pretty sure most folks are at least somewhat familiar with M. Night Shyamalan due to the Sixth Sense (fantastic movie).

There have been about 20 total.

What do you think are the best and worst?

I've only seen a few

Sixth Sense - great!
Unbreakable - very good (but not my favorite)
Signs - great
The Village - very good
Lady in the Water - very good (maybe not everyone's favorite, but I liked it and can't put my finger on why)

I saw some stuff from the movie Old on YT the other day. It looked interesting and like it could be good or bad.
I also saw some stuff for Split on YT. That looked good, and I think James McAvoy would be excellent in it.
I remember folks being disappointed in "The Happening". "The Last Airbender" had a lot of hype. I don't know if it was good on not.

I feel like I need to check out a bunch of his stuff that I haven't seen because they may be really good, but maybe even moreso because he seems to have some excellent, unique ideas.

I feel that overall...his early ones are very good.
The later ones...not so much.

A later one, which the family has to make big decisions to save the world.... Was terrible. (Knock at the Cabin)

He's hit or miss.

Either he nails it or totally f's it up.

I remember when we heard he was doing the Avatar: Last Airbender series and thought oh **** this will not end well.

The original series was a 3 season animated show and was absolutely excellent.

One day I'm outside the office on smoke break and one of my guys, JD, joins me.

JD asks me if I'm going to see the movie when it comes out.

Said, nope, I've seen the trailer, it's going to suck big time.

He starts to debate it and I'm like dude, he has ruined the series.

???What series?

Apparently JD had never seen or heard of the original animated series so I clued him in.

This was a Friday.

Following Monday he joins me for a smoke break and says, you're right movies going to suck.

I asked what changed his mind.

He said he went home Friday night and looked up the series out of curiosity and started watching. Got so sucked in he didn't leave the house all weekend and was already into 3rd season.

I love Signs. One of the best jump scares of all time with the birthday party alien.

Also love the Unbreakable series. If not for my kid I would not have seen any of the three. They include Samuel L MF Jackson.

Unbreakable was good, but not great. I haven't seen the others.

I was very surprised by Signs and thought it was outstanding!

About 1/4 of the way through The Village I had it figured out. Sixth Sense blew my mind.

You guys must have seen a different version of signs than I did. It was a terrible movie. WTF would an alien race come to a planet where 70 percent of the surface is deadly to them. And death routinely falls out of the sky.
Now if you want to discuss the thinly veiled religious theme, that is a different story.

I missed the first 15 minutes of sixth sense, and it was great! Then I saw the whole movie, not nearly as good then.

Unpopular statement, but I put shyamalan in the same bucket as kubrick and tarantino. Overrated and mediocre at best.

I followed the Avatar series when it first aired and really enjoyed it.

When I heard about the movie, I just accepted it would not be as good, but certainly worth a watch. And I really enjoyed the movie.

Noah Ringer, ( yeah, had to look it up ) did a great job as Aang.

But I also really like Hitchhiker's Guide movie and it wasn't nearly as good as the books.

Nobody besides me watched 'Knock at the Cabin'?

I'd say that one qualifies for the worst premise of any movie ever.
What was Shyamalan thinking?

James McAvoy is amazing in Split.

Devil and Old have not been mentioned but I found those interesting.
