Are You A whistler?

I have been accused through life of being a "Whistler". I've always got a tune in my head, sometimes on a "repeat" or ear worm that I don't care for. But hey, it's there.

I've had people that say when you whistle you're "calling the Devil" and they don't care for it.

I've tried singing too but that seems to get the same reaction.

So I whistle while I work. Screw them. Any other "Whistlers" out there?

I think that it’s a pleasant habit for the most part. My neighbor across the alley when I was a kid used to whistle while he rebuilt the engines on his British cars, he was an engineer at Honeywell. It has that connotation for me.

I can whistle but generally don't. Music is my thing when I'm in the workshop... It also lifts my spirits when needed.

Oh Yeah! Big time. A life long whistler here. My grand daughter, now 8yo was working on her whistle when she was 5. She wants to sound like Grampy, but needs to work on her scales.
As I do solo gigs and ain't that much of a guitar player, I will throw in some whistling on the breaks.
I get comments (good and bad) from folks who like the whistling and those who think I should just learn to play guitar.

Best

Yes. My whole life. I can still hear the many tunes my dad would whistle as well, and that makes me happy.

I can't whistle .... never have been able to and I've tried....

Hence... my dawg pretends not to know her name on occasion .... like when she chases a deer....

I fail .

Like Mr Todd above, done it most of my life. Now I'm occasionally self conscious and keep it down in public, but I'm working behind the scenes to get our 9yo daughter into it.

That said, I've never once been able to do the "fingers in the mouth dad-whistle". Mysteries of nature I guess...

I’m a whistler and find myself whistling a tune when I’m working. Taught myself how to do the two little finger in the corner of the mouth whistle. It’s funny because it all depends on lip moisture and ambient temperature. If it’s cold and dry then I can’t get any sound out of my mouth. Weird.

I am but nowhere near as good at it as I used to be. For some unknown reason whistling has gotten harder as I've aged. I can still do a very loud tucked tongue whistle but pursed lip whistling has gone down in quality.

I find that people that think they are whistling Dixie very annoying.
No one wants to listen to it. Sorry.

However, whistling while passing a graveyard is a must.

Sometimes when the mood strikes, I'll whistle something light and happy.

My wife says that when I whistle it means I'm pissed and about to blow. Kind of a warning, I guess. Like a teapot about to boil, or something.

I don't whistle as much as I used to.
I do enjoy whistling the tune from The Bridge Over the River Kwai.

I’ve never been able to whistle really loudly and was always jealous of people who could. It can come in handy. Can’t do the *two fingers in mouth” whistle…must have something to do with your bite or something(?)

One thing I’ve noticed from living in SoCal all these years is that Mexicans love to whistle and will punctuate a funny story with multi-note whistle…I usually can’t understand what’s being said but somehow know that it’s hilarious.
