60 minutes episode

Never thought I'd see CBS do a mostly honest portrayal...but here it is. A segment mostly covering Shane Van Boening in particular, but pool in general...

I was wondering if you were watching that tonight. It was very good.

I missed it, but the link was posted on a pool website.

I was thinking that Paul would be vibrating with happiness from this. Cool segment. I enjoyed it.

Not quite...anybody with hand\eye skills and the ability to dedicate themselves completely? I'd suggest golf over pool. The video mentioned the monetary rewards of being a world champ...not great. Maybe mid level bureaucrat pay. It's definitely a "love of the game" thing.

(edit) They did show Shane well..you could see the pain in his eyes as he remembered his bullied childhood. In another interview he described going back home after one of his US open wins. Took his car to the local car wash to discover one of his former bullies working there. With a smirk, Shane said; "I tipped him five bucks."

It was a very impressive piece! I love Shane's genuine love for the game.

60 Minutes does have the occasional good piece that is not just another political hatchet job. A week ago they had a good bit about dogs, and the real differences between a wolf and a dog. A wolf puppy can be had raised and loved by humans, but when it grown, it will prefer to be with other wolves, and not humans. They are very different animals from dogs. It was a good piece.
