Wow, has it Really been 29 Years
Since my Father passed?.
Typically on December 11th I go down to the club, order us a couple of Gin and Tonics, sit on the deck on the St Johns River and fire up a cigar and toast him and reflect. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1670746556.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1670746556.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1670746556.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1670746556.jpg |
Byron, I'm right there with you. 25 years and two weeks ago we gathered around my father's bedside and said our "Goodbyes".
Every day I am thankful I got to know the man and recognize his value to the family and the community. Cue up Dan Fogelburg's " Leader of the Band" Best Les |
Less than 2 years here. He still shows up in my dreams. Heck, I even retold one of his jokes last week. Would share it here but it would probably get me banned!
|
About 25 years for me too. Time flies. I’m glad to see that you honor his memory every year like that.

Coming up on 20 for me.
|
Almost 18 for me.
|
26 for me and still think about him all the time .

Just passed 3 years for my dad's passing...
|
Byron, I'm sorry for your loss, it's very humbling to look back and see the impacts of what our parents did for us and taught us.
And it's good to remember. Over 43 years ago since my dad passed. I can't help but think of all the things he's missed and would have loved. He was very artistic and could work in almost any medium, charcoal, oil paintings, watercolor, beautifully tooled leather pictures, holsters, purses, wallets and belts. He was also a life long learner, a boxer, ice skater, writer (wrote for the High Plains Journal in the early 60's) and photographer, his assignment's in WW2 was to photograph all kinds of events from the glass nose of various B-17's. He was very adventurous with a keen sense of direction. He would have loved the Internet's access to to the Smithsonian (a favorite place of his) and so much more... I got my love of photography and adventuring from him, pretty much none of his artistic abilities or sense of direction (thank heavens for compass's and good maps). I'm confident he and my Son would have had some terrific discussions and I see that many of dad's talents are prevalent in him. He battled multiple disease's and mental issues. His final months were exceptionally difficult... I drove him to Dr. appointments for chemo when it was still being developed. Those were awful times, in the end his passing was a blessing. He was 52 when he passed, I've outlived him by a decade already. I remember how strange it was and still is to realize how lucky I am to have good health and the ability to keep on adventuring. I'm also lucky to have gotten Mom's sensibilities when it come's to finances... he was terrible with money! |

54 years for me.
Like Les, I'm grateful I was old enough to know what a great Dad I had before we lost him. Love and miss you Dad.......SmileWavy http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1670781424.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1670781424.jpg |
Just about one month for me, Nov 16 was the day. Still processing but as others showed, you will never completely get over it.
|
Nine months for me. He passed in March.
Still not used to not having him around. |
About 30 years for me. I'd rather it was 60 years.

Eight years since my Father passed, 33 years for my Mom. I am the fortunate son of two remarkable people that took the time and effort to be parents...that was their gift to me. |
38 years for me. He's with me every time I do something out in the garage or around my home. I was really pissed that he passed before my son was born but I've gotten over it. I try to make sure I'm as good a dad to my kids as mine was to me. I'm trying to live long enough for my grandkids to get to know me enough to not forget me when I'm gone.

You fellows are all quite fortunate to have great memories of your parents........
Not every kid grows up with them.......... or has a reason to miss them when they are gone. |
It will be coming up 4 years in April that my dad had passed.
When I build something useful from junk in the garage or use something that I have had laying around just in case I need it, I imagine he would approve. Miss him. |
June 23, 2022 for me. I had been beside his hospital bed for a week. Dad died just before sunrise.
|
45 years and a couple days for my dad. I was 12 when he passed and I don't remember much about him. Mom never remarried and was devoted to raising me. Now mom is back with dad after 45 years. I miss them both.
