Ok, getting nervous.

I just moved back into my house after a garage fire (was out of the house for over a year)
On Saturday I have tickets to see Jay Leno and Jeff Foxworthy's show.

Me paranoid, no, why would you even ask such a silly question.

I have a good friend, that owned one of the largest privately owned BMW collections (outside of BMW), they had a garage fire a few years ago in a building that was connected to other buildings (like Leno's in Burbank) that housed a 507, 2002 Turbo, Tii, several E9 CSLs, 850CSi, every ///M to name a few.

The fire was a from a pre-war BMW that they were working on and through that afternoon had backfired through the intake or carb several times. Frustrated, they left for the day and locked up the shop until the Fire Dep't notified them of the structure fire. They believe that rags soaked in gas in proximity of that car was the cause.

At the time, I was a First Responder for the Utility company and received a call at 11pm with the address and was in disbelief when the dispatch told me the address, as I recognized it immediately.

Old cars with brittle fuel lines, gas, flammable chemicals, easy access to torches, the electrical panel, and you name it...garages provide the perfect location for a fire...its scary and can happen so easily to anyone of us.

Sending Jay good thoughts and hope he is OK and that the damage is not serious.

News has been saying a gasoline fire - and one side of his face was burned. No eye or ear damage per the same news report(s.)

And Doug - seems Leno has reported he is taking 2 weeks to recover....

Not just mine, since that happened, there have been many others that, because of the age, have turned into BBQs. But it happened while driving, Jay's car was in a garage. But based on his injuries (after reading mor3) it seems quite likely that he was wrenching on something.

Since you brought it up.

Sounds like JL will recover. Has anyone heard anything about the car and the condition of the shop?
The car he just had on his weekly YouTube show was a really rare 1920 ReVere - Duesenberg that he had just finished restoring.

I'm right there with you. The 944spec car has had the lines replaced. If I ever get the Firehawk car put together, it's getting a set of Rennbay lines or similar.

Good move...seriously. Fuel line materials made in pre gasahol days don't do well with the gasahol.

Not saying that's the cause of Jay's fire. Just saying be careful out there, guys.

I read he was working on a steam powered car, gas sprayed on him and ignited. Do some steam powered cars use gas to heat up the boiler?

I was welding on my car the last two weekends. I finished about five each day and left the garage door open, so that I could see and smell if anything funny was going on. Then closed the garage door before I went to bed.

That's what I thought, he was lighting the boiler for one of his steam cars. You can see him lighting the boiler on the steam car on some of his videos. I think it uses gasoline.
