2005 Mustang, This is a Weird Issue with a Door Jamb Switch

I'm storing a friends Mustang while they travel the country in an RV.

Started suddenly, no known cause or action.

Dome light wouldn't go off, cluster said "Door Ajar" when door was actually closed.

Open door, dome goes off, cluster happy.

And the window auto-drop/raise operates in reverse. Meaning, when attempting to open door, it stays raised. When closed, it drops to the normal lowered height.

Changed out the switch DW4068...twice. Acts the same way.

There's a window program for after changing that switch and we've ran it several times.

No joy.

The window and dome operate in reverse when door is open/close.

Any thoughts?

Start unplugging pins and window controls until the problem goes away.

You'll know when you find the problem.

But the door jamb switch only has one connector with 2 wires. It's a simple switch that changes state when open/closed.

Everything else works properly.

Just door ajar/dome operation.

Check the fuse for the domelight itself? Perhaps it's blown and the circuit getting its power thru ground. Seen that happen on my own cars.

Fords usually have POSITIVE trigger domelights like most cars do- the pin doesn't ground it provides power to the domelight.

Great points.

But the other issue is directly related and wouldn't be caused by a fuse, you think?

I think we have a Wrong Part from our FLAPS that rhymes with bone.

How’s the battery? Weak batteries do strange things.

DonDavis 12-26-2022 07:26 PM

New battery.

But now that you mention it, the issue first occurred not too far from when the old battery died.

We’ve tried the “window program” steps several times in every config we could think of.

Wonder if it’s a deeper sw prob.

Reinitialize the body control module and see what happens. Procedure - Disconnect the battery. Put the key in the ignition and set to run. Wait 5 minutes. Reconnect the battery. Turn key off and remove from igntion cylinder. Lock the drivers door from the inside button on the drivers door trim panel. (with door open)

This will reset the ignition disable/ factory alarm and body control module.

The door ajar switches are just ground contacts. You can check Fords with a paperclip as a jumper. One wire should be constant ground.

This is good info Jeff, I am going to have to try that as everything on my 2012 F350 works except the dome light when I open a door. The light comes on if you manually turn it on but everything I have read is it’s the body control module.

If this fails, (I'm thinking it will work) you might sign up here...tons of good Mustang tech guys. Sounds to me that the battery change upset the car's "brain"...needs to be reprogrammed somehow. Best to plug a 12V source into the OMD port when changing batteries...

We'll try Jeff steps.

In the meantime, here the switch.

With door open, the switch is an "open".

With door closed, the switch is closed or "shorted" to .5 ohms.

The operation acts as if the switch is totally opposite in function. Close the door, "door ajar" on dash.

I bet this is the wrong switch.

Bought a clutch from same FLAPS for an '84 Scirocco way back. It was re-manufactured and apparently to incorrect specs. Had to get one from a VW supplier.

You could be right...so try the local Ford dealer parts dept?

DonDavis 12-27-2022 09:56 AM

We've only tried one dealer, they said the part was obsolete and they can't get it.

We have a switch on it's way. I'll report back.

Another place to keep in mind...the Boy racer set seems to love this dealership for parts.

Fixed!

The switch we got from Napa was the trick. It operated exactly as I expected.

Car is all together and windows/dome light are fine.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Congrats, well done.

:) NAPA to the rescue. It's my first "brick and mortor" parts store stop in this town.
The local one even stocks bins of individual fasteners.
