what makes you think today

is the right day to get a neck or face tat?

ive got some ink, nothing I need to hide, but could if I ever had to. where I live many, many folks, especially chicks have really intricate, colorful sleeves as do a couple friends and family, so I'm not tat adverse. if you are your comment could hold more weight.

not that any of you would have a neck or face tat, but what might lead you to do so? im thinking if i joined a motorcycle gang i might need to ink my grill...

what might make you become a 1%er?

Probably the same external forces that tell a person "hey, today is the day I think I'll start wearing sweater-vests."

They wear their defiance like a badge of honor; something hard-earned and tightly guarded.

My tastes in art and fashion constantly evolve. Not following trends but rather following what suits me.

I feel like having a tatoo would be like being stuck for life with a mullet.

AND a facial tattoo would mean I am constantly being judged by others. So wrong, it's more correct that I judge them.

I’ve considered it many times. …but I’m complicated. When they invent one I can change from week to week, I’m in.

Half a lifetime ago I worked at a scientific iinstitute and asked a group of scientists what it would take to produce a tattoo ink that would fade/disappear after five years.

They said NO. Everyone has different skin with different levels of light (UV's) making it through. And if you had a tattoo ink that "would be gone by the time you are married" you would get your arse suited off. Some people it would be gone in a year, and others ten years later still have F' You written on thier forehead.

OK, maybe some of you should consider a lower back tramp stamp?

Ever see an old time vet with some forearm ink that is completely blurred cause it's 50 year old?

IMO, people with face and neck tats are in the same category as those who deface one of their eyebrows with slits and/or those attention-seeking haircuts.

I think it's sad their parents didn't pay enough attention to them and they're trying to make up for it.

Today, if you have no tats, you're in the minority. I have no tats and reserve my right to be different, like everybody else.

I'm going to use the participle, "Wanton disregard" linked by the conjuction "for", followed by almost any proper pronoun.

I disagree with the generality.

Face and neck tats can be appealing if well thought through and done by a top notch artist

I would lean towards art rather than a statement.

I don't know how to define well thought through but I know one when I see one.

I have no tats.

I've got no problem with tats. I've never considered one for myself. When I was a teen I considered piercing an ear (that was "in" at the time) but after thinking about it for a while, I decided not to do it so I'm still 100% stock, no mods. If I had something that meant a great deal to me, I might commemorate it via a tat. But I don't have anything that I feel the need to apply like that.

Tats from the neck up seem like a very serious commitment compared to many/most other places you could put them. They will impact first impressions. I guess the one exception being if you get one above the hairline and don't shave your head (hidden) or get one at the top back of your neck and have long enough hair to hide it. I think you can have tats for yourself in which case you probably don't care if another soul ever sees them. Or you can have tats that you want people to see. Which is the case, and what is the goal, and are you prepared to deal with the possible repercussions?

I don't understand the desire to get a face or neck tat, or the other recent trend especially for women, the upper chest tat.

The only time I got close to getting a tattoo was my brief Army career but it just never happened. Never found something that I wanted to wear around for the rest of my life.

When I was working on the film "Pearl Harbor" we did the scene of the enlistment center out at the old Camarillo Mental Hospital. 120 extras, guys standing around in boxer shorts and it was tough to find anyone between 18 and 30 who didn't already have a tattoo and the majority were "tribal" tattoos which wouldn't have been around in 1941. They hired 15 extra makeup people to cover the tattoos before filming.

And that's the thing. Guys with tribal tattoos and chicks with "barbed wire" are probably hating their decision these days.

No tats or piercings for me, visible or hidden. I can find other ways to express myself. Plus I don’t see the point of paying someone big bucks to inflict pain on me. I’m a pussy.
